A Chance Meeting

Today's work again huh?"

Sighed the petite girl with blue eyes and brown medium length hair as she sluggishly got decked out in her dark green uniform.

She locked her apartment door and took off to her packaging workplace located on the street of Shibuya. When she arrived, she placed her bag on a shelf and checked in.

"Slow and peaceful as usual."

She thought to herself as she passed her coworkers who were slacking off.

Taking a seat at her desk, she started creating spreadsheets of packages arriving and departing from the company.

"I see she's by herself again."

Whispered one of her passing coworkers to a friend.

"Hmm?... Oh her. What was her name again? It was Stella, right? Stella Cornello?"

" Does she even talk? I never heard her talk before."

"Of course she talks but very rarely. She'll only talk when she needs to. Just don't get on her bad side. I heard she broke a guy's arm because he was talking to her too much."

"Really? It's always the quiet ones that are the most dangerous."

The boys gossiped.

"Those fools! Don't they know I can hear everything they're saying? And I didn't break that guy's arm he just happened to break it while talking to me!"

Stella angrily thought to herself. Just then, the boys felt a great shiver run down their spines.

"Did you think she heard us? I think she's mad." Said one of the boys.

"Let's get out of here, I don't want my arm broken."

"Yeah let's go!"

"What is wrong with people?"

Stella sighed as she proceeded to type a document into the computer.

(Time skip )

"Only 2 packages so far. I barely had any to do as per usual."

Stella thought as she looked at her watch and noticed that it was 3:00 pm.

"Time to go home I guess."

She checked out and started to walk home through her normal route. However, it started to rain abruptly.

"Good thing I always carry an umbrella on hand."

She thought. As she walked, the wind suddenly became stronger. So much so that it blew away her umbrella.

Without any shelter in sight, she attempted to get back her umbrella that was swiftly blowing further away by the second.  She pursued it without fail and was close to catching it as it got stuck in a hedge.

"Almost! Almost!" she said as she stretched her hand to grab the blue handle of the umbrella.

*Whoooooooooooooooooooooooosh

A sudden gust removed the umbrella revealing a bird on the brink of death. Its yellow feathers were soaked in bright red blood, both of its wings were broken as well as one of its legs.

Stella was shocked at the sight. The rain then came to a sharp end at that exact moment in time. She felt her chest tighten as tears flowed down her cheeks like a non-stopping river. She truly felt sympathy for it as it very feebly mustered up all its strength and looked into her big blue eyes.

She knew that putting it out of its misery then and there would be the best thing to do, but the look it gave her, it was as if it was begging her to help him.

Stella looked at the canary with burning determination in her eyes as well as her words and dauntlessly declared –

"Don't worry, I promise I'll save you!"
