The next morning I awoke with a headache and sore body after sleeping restlessly through the night. My mind was still reeling with the shock and horror of what had transpired last night, and I knew I desperately needed time to recover from the trauma while I was alone. Thankfully, Max had no plans for leaving early, so I spent the entire day lying on the couch in the living room, taking advantage of his absence to try and sort out my thoughts. I felt exhausted physically as well as emotionally; it had been difficult enough dealing with all the stress and worry over my sister's disappearance, but having to deal with a whole new level of danger just hours later had drained me completely. I was still trying to process everything that had occurred, wondering how far this mysterious man and his accomplices planned to go. And I was still worried sick about my family's safety too.
