Chapter 25 Kelvin Smith
After they finished with their food, they were sipping some drinks, waiting for the bidding to start. Just then a young man approached their table.
"Brother, it's been a while. How have you been" he said. Jack Smith wasn't happy to see him because he had a frown on his face and it confused Betty. 'Are they family? Why is Jack not happy to see him' she thought. Jack was ignoring this young man.
"Ohh and who is this pretty lady, are you not going to introduce us my dear brother" he said trying to shake hands with Betty but Jack grabbed Betty's hand and said
"You're not invited here "
"Hey chill brother, I was invited to this gathering haha I know you won't introduce us, well I can do the honours, hello pretty lady, my name is Kelvin Smith and you are .." After Kelvin mentioned his name Betty was confused about something 'they are relatives but why does it look like they hate eachother' she asked herself. Because Jack was still holding her hands , she just gave Kelvin a smile and mentioned her name "I'm Betty Rockson." Jack had a frown on his face, it seems he wasn't happy about Betty talking to Kelvin and even smiling at him.
"Wow , what a pretty name for a beautiful girl. Who are you to my brother, I believe he's really a difficult person you had to accompany haha" Betty felt uncomfortable about how the chat was going. Jack was about to stop Kelvin but after he heard the question , he wanted to know how Betty will handle the situation. On the other hand, Betty didn't know what to say she knew these two men didn't like eachother but she felt like she needed to support Jack. She had a bad feeling about Kelvin.
"He's my boyfriend" she answered and gave Kelvin her killer smile. The two men were speachless. Jack Smith was very happy but didn't understand why he was happy Betty called him 'Boyfriend' but Kelvin was just surprised, this is the first time in years he's heard Jack has a girlfriend.
"If you'll excuse us we want to fully participate in this program since it's about to start" Betty said trying her best to be polite. Kelvin turned and saw that the bidding was about to start.
"Oh that's nice, see you around sister in-law, hey brother see you around" he said and left,still surprised about the news he just heard. Jack Smith was still staring at Betty. "What.. can you please leave my hand" she said trying to free herself
"Can't I even hold my girlfriend's hand" Betty rolled her eyes.
"You know I said that to save you"
"From what or who ?" Jack asked with a questioning gaze. Betty realized what she said was senseless because Kelvin wasn't a girl. She tried to ignore Jack but Jack said.
"Your instincts just accepted me , you're my woman from now Betty" Betty looked at him surprisingly. Just when she was about to talk back the emcee started talking and welcomed everybody to the program.
Kelvin Smith sat at his table and couldn't take his eyes off Betty and Jack's table. Kelvin and Jack are cousins. When they were young, they were like bestfriends who could never be separated but due to how they were treated, one gained hatred for the other. They are both of the same age and attended the same school in the same grade when they were young but Jack was more brilliant than Kelvin. Because Kelvin's mother wanted her son to be the one to be in charge of the properties, she always forced her son to learn. Kelvin had no motherly love and unfortunately, he never even passed Jack once which has now made Jack the heir to the family's business.
Because of this, all he wants in this life is to overcome Jack Smith and be in charge. He believed that Jack took everything belonging to him because Jack wasn't 100 percent a Smith.
Jack Smith also didn't feel comfortable about Kelvin. He had a feeling that Kelvin was one of the people who wanted to take his life but he didn't have enough proof. So the best was to distance himself from him.
