Chapter 30

The next morning, Melody's eyelids fluttered open as the warm rays of the sun kissed her face letting her know of its presence. She yawned and stretched a little before leaving the bed.

Waking up she had the urge for morning yoga to calm and relax her body and mind. Her encounter with Gale had left her thinking of the past all night and her mind was a mess. After the yoga, she felt refreshed and soon got ready for work. Abigail came as usual and picked her up.

Arriving at the Starlight building, Melody walked in. As usual, she was greeted by many staff on her way to the elevator which she reciprocated with a nod or a smile.

Leaving the elevator, she went straight to Damian's office to check the things there and put in order whatever was not. After arriving inside the office, she looked around his desk, arranging the files and documents that were left unattended.

By the time she was done and ready to leave for her cabin, she heard the door behind her open and someone stepped in. She need not look to know who it was. His unique cologne and masculine scent had already reached her senses to make her aware of his presence. Turning slowly she faced him and gave a slight bow and greeted, "Good morning, President Frost!"

Damian looked at the woman he had grown to love so much during such a short period spent with her bowing to him. For some reason, he hated being bowed to. It was fine when everyone else did it. He only hated it whenever she was the one doing it. Bowing to him. Not knowing what to say to her he gave a hum "Mhm," He walked past her to his desk and sat down.

Melody felt offended by the way he treated her. Damian acting so distant hurt her. A lot. Unknowingly, she was used to having him come to her, to engage her in one way or another.

She was used to having him hugging her and kissing her every morning without her even knowing it. She was used to him caging her between the wall and himself now that she did get any of that from him she was feeling hurt inside.

She may not admit it but she liked it when he touched her and kissed her. And now, she missed it. She missed his touch and longed for it. Realizing where her thoughts were drifting, she scolded herself, 'What is wrong with you? Isn't this what you wanted, for him to stay away from you?'

'If that is the case then why are you hurt when facing his indifference towards you?' she heard her inner voice questioning her.

Not knowing how to answer the question that her inner self was asking, she turned her gaze to Damian who had his eyes on her since she started trancing off.

"Is there anything you would need, sir?" she asked.

He looked at her for a while and then shook his head. " You can leave. If there's anything, I will call you," he said and turned on the computer at his front and started working.

Once again Melody felt a sharp pain in her heart after seeing a disinterested look in his eyes. Why was she feeling this way? She was sure that she didn't have any feelings for him so why? Why the aching heart?

"Alright, sir. I will take my leave then," she said and turned around and left his office.

After she left, Damian looked at the now-closed door and multiple emotions flashed across his eyes. He didn't fail to notice the hurt in her eyes when he ignored her. He never meant to hurt but he needed her to realize her feelings for him.

He was more than tempted to go to her and hug her. To give her a reassuring kiss, assuring her that he was hers and she had nothing to fear but he could not do that. It took a lot of strength to top himself but he was proud that he was able to pull it through.

Melody still couldn't understand why she was feeling hurt now that Damian was no longer pestering her to accept his feelings for her. She was feeling betrayed but had no idea why. Sitting behind her desk, she could not concentrate on the pending work that she had to do.

Not knowing what to do, she picked up her phone and called Smith for updates on the welfare of her father's businesses. Right now, anything that could distract her from thinking about Damian was worth it. The phone rang but there was no reply. She tried multiple times but still no answer.

Out of frustration, she tossed the phone aside and forced herself into the pile of files before her trying her best to understand its content. Spending some time just looking at the files without understanding a thing she woke from her seat and went back to Damian's office.

Reaching there she knocked a few times before getting permission to enter. She pushed open the door and got in.

Damian who had been engrossed with his work raised his head and saw her standing beside the door staring at the ground or anywhere except his face. He did not know why she was there but he did not have an issue with her presence inside his office. He liked her there. Her presence gives him warmth. The kind of warmth that only she could provide.

But seeing her looking away from him when she has come to him seems to have something important to tell him was a bit odd. She was never like that so what was it that wanted to say to him?

Not wanting the silence to drag any longer than it already has he decided to ask her instead. "Miss Nova, is there any problem?"

Melody raised her head to look at him for the first time since she came into his office. She opened her mouth to say something but no words were voiced out. Seeing that he was intrigued to know why she was there.

He let her have the time that she needed to make up her mind and speak to him. Even though he was dying to go to her he did not, giving her the much-needed space and patience.

Mustering a bit of courage she asked, "President Frost, are.... Are you mad at me?" Melody didn't know why she stuttered but at least she had asked the one question that had been bugging her mind since she left Damian's office early in the morning.

Damian looked at her with a raised brow but smiled inwardly at her question. It was unexpected but a good sign.
