After Jasper had left, Lance entered the cabin and handed Abigail a new phone. "Mr. Hubbard brought you a new phone," he said, looking at her skeptically.
Abigail's eyes narrowed as she observed Lance's reaction, trying to gauge his expression. She realized he was suspicious of her. She felt mortified, but she refused to admit she had lied to him.
"Did you tell him about the phone?" she asked, making her face stern.
"No…" He shook his head, caught off guard. "I swear I didn't say a word to your father about the phone. I would never betray your trust like that."
Abigail kept her angry attitude, not easily persuaded. She persisted in her act, trying to let Lance feel the weight of her disappointment.
"Well, someone must have told him. And no one knew I had misplaced the phone but you. How else would he know about it? You know how important that phone was to me. I can't believe you have put me in such an embarrassing situation."
