The stalker

The Stalker

Ava's heart was racing as she stared at her phone. She knew that the voice on the other end belonged to the person who had killed Tony. But who could it be? And why were they after her?

Jack wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Ava told him about the phone call and the voice on the other end. Jack's face darkened as he listened, his grip on her tightening.

"We need to go to the police," he said, his voice firm.

Ava nodded, knowing he was right. She didn't want to involve the police, but she knew that it was the only way to keep Jack and herself safe.

As they walked to the police station, Ava couldn't help but feel like she was being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, but there was no one there. It was like the stalker was always one step ahead of her.

Once they arrived at the station, they were ushered into a small interrogation room. A detective with graying hair and tired eyes sat across from them, scribbling notes on a notepad.

"What can you tell me about Tony?" the detective asked, looking up at them.

Ava swallowed hard, her mind racing. "He was a guy I met at a bar," she said. "We went out a few times, but it didn't really go anywhere."

The detective nodded, jotting down notes. "Do you have any idea who would want to hurt him?"

Ava shook her head, feeling helpless. "I don't know," she said. "I didn't really know him that well."

The detective looked at Jack. "What about you, sir? Do you have any enemies?"

Jack shook his head. "Not that I'm aware of," he said. "I run a successful business, but I try to keep a low profile."

The detective nodded, his eyes flicking between the two of them. "I'll have someone look into it," he said. "In the meantime, I suggest you both be careful. If this stalker is targeting you, he could strike again at any time."

Ava felt a chill run down her spine. She didn't want to think about what could happen if the stalker found her. She needed to take action, and fast.

As they left the station, Ava felt a sense of relief wash over her. They had gone to the police, and now they could start to put this nightmare behind them. But as they walked to their car, Ava's phone rang again.

She hesitated before answering, her heart racing. "Hello?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and then the voice spoke again. "I told you to be careful, Ava," the voice said. "But you didn't listen. Now, you're going to pay."

Ava's blood ran cold. She knew that the stalker was watching her, and she didn't know how to stop him.

As they got into the car, Ava couldn't shake the feeling that they were being followed. She kept looking over her shoulder, but she couldn't see anyone.

Suddenly, a car pulled up next to them, and a man leaned out the window, pointing a gun at them.

Ava screamed, ducking down as Jack slammed on the gas pedal, speeding away from the gunman.

They weaved through traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions as they tried to outrun their attacker.

Finally, they lost him, pulling into a deserted parking lot to catch their breath.

Ava's hands were shaking as she clung to Jack, tears streaming.

As they sat in the deserted parking lot, Ava's heart was pounding in her chest. She couldn't believe what had just happened. Someone had just tried to kill her and Jack, and she had no idea why.

Jack was holding her tightly, his own breathing ragged. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Ava nodded, but she couldn't speak. She was too shocked, too scared, too overwhelmed.

Jack pulled back slightly, his hands on her shoulders. "We need to get out of here," he said. "We need to go somewhere safe."

Ava nodded again, still unable to find her voice. She felt like she was in a nightmare, and she couldn't wake up.

Jack started the car and drove off, taking a series of turns and twists that Ava couldn't follow. She had no idea where they were going, but she trusted Jack. He would keep her safe.

Finally, they pulled up outside a large house on the outskirts of town. It was a beautiful house, with a large garden and a swimming pool. But Ava wasn't interested in the house. She just wanted to know if they were safe.

Jack led her inside, and they were greeted by a woman in her late 40s. "Hi, I'm Jane," the woman said. "I'm a friend of Jack's. He told me what's been going on, and I'm here to help."

Ava looked at Jack, surprised. She had no idea that he had friends like this. But she was grateful for the help.

Jane led them to a guest room, telling them to make themselves comfortable. "You can stay here for as long as you need to," she said. "I'll make sure you have everything you need."

As soon as they were alone, Ava collapsed onto the bed, her body shaking. Jack sat down next to her, pulling her into his arms.

"It's going to be okay," he said, his voice soft. "We're safe here."

Ava nodded, but she didn't believe him. She didn't think she would ever feel safe again.

Over the next few days, they stayed at Jane's house, trying to piece together what had happened. They spoke to the police, but there was little they could do. The stalker had left no trace, and they had no idea who he was.

Ava spent most of her time in the guest room, barely leaving the bed. She was too scared to go outside, too scared to face the world.

But Jack didn't give up. He kept trying to find out who was after them, calling in favours and talking to everyone he knew.

Finally, he got a lead. A friend of a friend had heard something about a man who was targeting couples in the area. He had no idea who the man was, but he knew where he was going to strike next.

Jack didn't hesitate. He grabbed his gun and headed out, leaving Ava behind. She begged him not to go, but he didn't listen.

Hours passed, and Ava sat in the guest room, waiting for Jack to come back. She tried to distract herself, reading a book or watching TV, but her mind was always on Jack.

Finally, there was a knock at the door. Ava jumped up, running to answer it. But it wasn't Jack. It was a police officer.

"Ma'am, we need you to come with us," the officer said, his voice serious.

Ava's heart sank. She knew something had happened to Jack.

They drove her to a hospital, where a doctor told her that Jack had been shot. He was in critical condition, and they weren't sure if he was going to make it or not.
