Chapter 29

Boris has just been discharged from the hospital after being hospitalized for a month and a half.

Meanwhile Catherine and Jerry have been busy with the preparations for their wedding that was some weeks ahead.

It has been very stressful for Catherine and Jerry to balance their schedule because of the numerous work in the company and all the stress that comes from organizing a wedding.

It was a Thursday afternoon, Daniel was inside his office going through the files that the secretary just brought for him when his phone started ringing.

Without hesitating he brought out the phone from his pocket and checked the caller ID before picking it up.

"Hello Chris, how are you?" Daniel asked across the phone.

"I'm fine Bro how are things going?" Chris inquired.

"Fine Bro hope you saw the remaining cash that I sent" Daniel asked across the phone.

"Yes Bro it was delivered successfully, that's why I called you." Chris replied from the other end.

"Happy to hear that, now that I have played my own part, it's now up to you to play your own part." Daniel said to Chris across the phone.

"Yes Bro and I'm already doing that." Chris said to Daniel.

"OK Bro we will see in the evening, have a nice day" Daniel said to Chris

"Same to you" Chris said to Daniel before hanging up the call.

As he was about to keep the phone it started ringing again and immediately he checked the caller ID once again before picking it up.

"Good afternoon sir" The secretary greeted him over the phone.

"Yes good afternoon Christine, how can I help you?" Daniel asked across the phone.

"Sir, your presence is needed in the conference room" The secretary informed him.

"Right now?" Daniel asked from the other end.

"Yes sir, right now" The secretary replied.

"OK I'll be there right now" Daniel replied before hanging up the call.

After hanging up the call, he arranged the files on his table and started heading towards the conference room.

Once he got there, he saw some of the board members, Jerry, the secretary and the work inspector and from their facial expressions he knew he was in big trouble.

"Good afternoon everyone everyone" He greeted them but they all remained silent.

"Mr Daniel please have a seat" The work inspector said to Daniel who sat down immediately.

Afterwards he brought out some files from an envelope and dropped them in front of Daniel.

"Mr Daniel you were assigned as the accountant after the poisoning of Mr. Boris, and through the intervals of a month and half that you worked as the accountant we noticed that an amount of one million dollars disappeared from the company. Please, how do you explain that?" The work inspector asked Daniel while peering into his eyeballs.

" I don't know what you are talking about sir" Daniel replied with a firm tone.

"According to the records stated on these documents it's clear that you did many transactions to an unknown account, and none of these transactions had anything to do with the company expenses of the company or weren't you behind these transactions?" The work inspector asked Daniel.

"I don't know anything about these transactions." Daniel replied and the work inspector smiled mischievously.

"So Mr. Daniel if I understand well all these funds mysteriously disappeared from the company?" The work inspector asked Daniel with a smirk on his face and Daniel nodded in agreement.

"Will you shut up Daniel?" Jerry barked angrily. "What do you take us for?Do you think we are fools?." Jerry barked angrily.

"You planned all this right from the beginning, first you poisoned Boris because you knew that once he's out that you are the only one eligible to replace him, and once I assigned you over the accounting you used the opportunity to transfer the funds of the company to only God knows where." Jerry said to Daniel angrily but Daniel remained indifferent.

"I have said it and I will say it again, I'm innocent of all your accusations, I don't know what you are talking about." Daniel replied.

With that statement Jerry got more infuriated.

"Will you stop lying and tell us where you sent the money to" Jerry barked angrily while banging the table but Daniel remained indifferent instead he shook his head in disbelief and remained silent.

"Mr. Jerry please calm down, the evidence is clear, if he refuses to talk there are many ways to make him spill out the truth." One of the board members told Jerry and the others nodded in agreement.

Jerry stared at him angrily for some minutes before sitting down.

"Mr. Daniel this is your last chance, either you tell us the truth so that together we can discuss the punishment reserved for you or we will take the issue to court. At the court the judge will be in the right position to decide the punishment you will receive." The work inspector said to Daniel but he remained silent.

Without hesitating the work inspector brought out his phone and placed a call before smiling at Daniel mischievously.

"Daniel, you want to play stubborn right?" Jerry asked Daniel angrily. "I never knew you were this heartless, I will make sure you rot in jail and even dad won't be able to help you this time around. Jerry said to Daniel angrily.

With that statement two police men came in and handcuffed Daniel.

" If you won't talk here at least you will talk there" The work inspector said to Daniel who remained indifferent as if nothing not was going on.

With that the work inspector nodded at the police men and they started heading outside with him.

As they were heading outside Daniel bent his head in shame as the whole employee kept on looking at him in disdain while others started videoing him secretly.

Once the police men left with Daniel Jerry dismissed the board members and postponed the meeting to the following week.

After the departure of the board members Jerry sat silently in the conference with many thoughts running through his head.

He kept wondering how his brother could be able to poison someone, how he was able to come up with all his devilish plans alone, to whose account he transferred the whole fund to and what could have happened to the company if Christine didn't inform him about the missing funds she has been noticing lately.

As these thoughts were running through his mind someone tapped him on the back and immediately he jerked back to reality.

"Are you okay?" The work inspector asked him and he nodded without replying.

"So what are you going to do now?Are you really going to sue Daniel in court?" The work inspector asked Jerry.

"I don't know, I just don't know. He's still my brother, I need some time to think over it" Jerry said to the work inspector sorrowfully.

"I understand, don't rush into any decisions, take your time and think it over," The work inspector said to Jerry who nodded in agreement.

"Mr. Jerry, I will be taking my leave now, have a nice day." The work inspector said to Daniel he was exiting the conference room.
