Chapter 16

Myrah's POV

My left eye shed a somber tear. I was stupid. an abhorrent fool. I was foolish and illogical. He didn't mean a thing to me, yet I had a soft spot in my heart for him.

I resisted wanting to cry. He wasn't worth it. I mentally yelled at my tears, but they betrayed me and spilled out nonetheless. My plans were never carried out as I had hoped.

The older woman held my hand gently and asked, "Are you okay, child?"

I brushed my tears away frantically.

Valentino Alexander, you're not worth it! I have to stop crying about you! I've had enough of your pain!

I'm good. I just don't feel so good, and I had a notion that made me cry. I'm sorry, but I get emotional easily. I lied, but I could tell that they didn't believe me.

They also lacked the courage to explore the subject. Pity was the last thing I needed. I felt weak because of sympathy, and that only made me cry more.

"Should we get you to a doctor?" Regina softly squeezed my hand and questioned.

"No," I'm ok. Maybe he left me a message or something. I asked sincerely, but the two women gave me pitying looks.

"Unfortunately, he didn't."

"That's alright." I'll head to my room, I think. Later, I'll stop over and get to know you two better. You all appear to be decent folks.

Regina chimed in, "Kyle did leave you something, though."

"He arrived here"

"He did?"

Yes, a few hours after your arrival, he showed up. You seemed so worn out that we didn't even get a chance to say hello.

She said, "he left something for you since he didn't want to bother you, and a faint smile appeared on my lips.

Regina returned in less than two minutes with a small gift bag, and she gave it to me.

Now we'll let you be alone. Call us if you need anything. Martha, if you're wondering, Regina is my little girl. We are both eager to learn more about you, ma'am.

Please address me as Myrah. It's good to meet both of you, I said.

They appeared decent.

Regina apologized, saying, "I was actually cleaning up Mr. Alexander's bedroom in case you got the wrong idea."

"No" It's okay. You two should proceed with finishing. Later, we'll catch up.

To finally be in my bedroom and open the gift package made me happy.

But in all seriousness, what and why would Kyle offer me? It wasn't every day that I received a gift, so I was already really excited.

My heart grew larger when I peeled apart the taped gift bag and peered inside.

I threw everything onto my bed and grinned broadly. I had stopped crying and feeling depressed.

About five of these enormous chocolates, each the size of an iPad, were there. The most touching aspect was that they were penned in Paris.

I also saw some candy that I had never seen before, but it looked delicious. There was a T-flash, too.

A note was also written on a nice card with decorations.

Dear Myrah, how are you? Your honeymoon? How was it? I'll get to the point, as I'm a little pressed for time.

I discovered this other confectionery and these Paris chocolates while I was in Mexico. I felt it would be incredibly kind to gift them to Paris, a girl I know. I bought all the chocolates and candies with affection (I like that girl, by the way), so please enjoy. Paris, I hope you enjoy sweets. Eat sweet items and witness the magic, according to the theory that doing so produces happy feelings.

On the T-Flash, there are a few movies I'd suggest. They'll do so much more than just make you cry or laugh; believe me when I say that.

I'll see you soon, and I hope you miss me even more. Additionally, I'll miss you more.

Your husband's close friend

What made me cry?

He was so unbelievably kind, and yet he still managed to make me cry. If only he could help out his best friend by being sweet.

Seriously, I hadn't anticipated anything of the sort. It was comforting to know that someone was thinking about me.

Even though we weren't yet that close, he was already watching out for me. I had a serious sweet tooth, so I would probably eat them all.

I bit into a Paris chocolate, and it was delicious. Delectable, distinctive, and irresistible flavors.

I stored the present bag, card, and extra candies and chocolates for later in a secure location. I would treasure this occasion forever.

A faint knock on my door was heard. It was probably Regina or Martha.

I murmured softly, "Come on in." I wasn't in the mood to stand up.

I was enjoying a chocolate bar when Martha entered the room with a tray. She looked like a mother to me and was about the same age as my mother.

"I hope you don't mind us coming in here, ma'am."

"Thank you, Martha. You can call me Myrah, and I won't object. As she entered and put the tray on the bed, I said, "You are welcome here."

Martha continued to shut the door before returning and joining me on the bed. I had my chocolate next to me as I sat cross-legged on the bed.

I turned to face the tray. There was toasted bread, a handmade beef burger, and sausages. Ummmm, yummy. She seemed to understand my favorite things. I had a good feeling that we would get along well.

A cup of hot chocolate that was steaming was also present. I was salivating in my head.

Go ahead and eat, please. You ought to have breakfast. Especially for you, I made it.

"Many thanks," Martha. This looks incredibly tasty, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I gave her a thank-you before beginning to eat.

Delightful! While I was eating, Martha only smiled at me. She reminded me of my mother, back when I was still her daughter. I was always spoiled and cared for by my mother. Everything is now in the past.

Why didn't I notice you folks when I was nearby?

I was on vacation. It lasted for a month. One week ago, both of us returned. I wish I had been present when you arrived. Regardless, it's lovely to see you now.

Sure, why not? Regina must either be assisting you or working here as well.

When she is on vacation, she comes here to work. She wants to assist me in raising money so she may complete her education, and Mr. Alexander pays very well. He is a decent dude.

Yes, indeed. Nice to everyone else but me.

I kept eating while we chatted insanely, but I could see she had something to say.

She questioned me abruptly, "Myrah, are you in love with Valentino?" And I choked on my food.

I hurriedly grabbed my hot cocoa and downed it. She simply turned to face me and smiled broadly.

"Love? No way! Why would I be drawn to him?

You appeared somewhat alarmed that he departed silently, I noticed.

"That is absolutely not the case." My head was wacky. Since I frequently suffer from severe headaches, I pretended that it was just another wave while sipping my hot chocolate. It was scrumptious.

"Myrah," I am a mother, and my daughter is almost your age. I am aware of these facts. Perhaps you haven't actually fallen in love, or you simply don't know what your feelings are.

"I most definitely haven't fallen."

"Okay" Just a piece of advice, please. Keep your heart safe. Love is a risky game. Others lose, while some players do. Some players suffer severe injuries while playing that prevent them from ever returning to the sport. Myrah, keep your heart safe, and know that Regina and I are here for you whenever you need a shoulder to cry on.

I put down my fork to reflect on what she had said. A perilous game, an actor, a failure, injured too badly to recover. No way! I coveted all the sweet, romantic things as well.

My own husband had just returned from a birthday trip to Paris with his girlfriend. How lovely.

"Many thanks, Martha." I'll struggle to keep my heart safe.

You must, she says. You are a woman of strength. I have faith in you.

"You do?"

"Yes." You now have confidence in yourself.

The advice I needed to hear came from a woman I hardly even knew, not my mother. She gave me a warm hug in return, much like a mother wo

uld give her daughter, because I was unable to control my urge to hug her.

"I appreciate your faith in me."
