"How did you know that it's Ruby's men?" She asked.
Nicholas sighed deeply. "I was curious about what happened. And you wanted to know the guy right?"
She frowned. Nicholas seemed anxious so she wasn't sure if she would believe him.
"Not anymore."
"What? You're not interested in that guy? Why?"
She was a little surprised with Nicholas' reaction. It looked like he was more interested in the guy than her.
"I just realized that nothing will change if I find him. I hate him so much, why would I waste my time with that rapist! I don't want to see him ever." She exclaimed.
Nicholas was taken aback when she almost yelled.
"Then forget about him. If he's just a waste of time then don't think about what happened."
Mia couldn't understand Nicholas' reaction. His jaw stiffened as if he was suppressing his anger.
"I appreciate what you did. Thank you for the information about my sister."
Nicholas left Mia confused. She would never understand his actions and his temper.
"Are we going back, sir?" His driver asked.
"Just a few minutes more." He said, looking at the entrance door of the club.
His driver nodded. But half an hour passed, Nicholas was still staring at the entrance.
"Sir, I know it's none of my business, but why didn't you tell her the truth?" The driver asked.
Nicholas sighed. "It doesn't matter. Nothing will change if she finds out."
"What's your next plan, sir?"
"Nothing. Same as before. I will come here if I want to."
Nicholas stared at the photos in his hands. He planned on giving them to Mia, but she said she's not interested with what happened and would rather forget about it.
"Frank, that man from the hotel, have you talked to him?" He asked.
The guy beside the driver nodded. "Yes and he's really Ruby Grayson's man. But he said something interesting."
"What is it?"
"He said his boss asked him to take Amelia Lane from the club after talking to a woman."
"And who was that woman?"
"Your wife, sir."
Nicholas didn't say a word. His expression could explain what he felt when he learned about Sabrina's scheme.
"His father knew about it?"
Frank nodded. "Yes, sir. In fact, he was the one who introduced Sabrina to Ruby Grayson.''
Frank knew that his boss was mad because he crossed his legs and massaged his temple.
"Did you find out about the investment deal?" He asked.
"Yes, sir. It's in the blue envelope."
Nicholas read the documents from the envelope. He had to meticulously check everything to make sure that nothing was left unnoticed.
"He's really an idiot. Does he think I'm that stupid? This is a scam!"
"How did you know, sir?"
Nicholas chuckled. "He wanted to invest in real estate. The target is the Redford District. That area is being controlled by the mafia and most of the properties belong to them. If the investors know nothing about that place, he can easily persuade them."
"Why? Isn't it known to everyone?" Frank asked.
"No. Only a few people know that. Redford District is a good investment because all wealthy men gather there. But you won't get anything in return."
"Because all profits go to the mafia."
"Exactly."
"Why would he want to invest if there's no profit?"
"That's your next assignment. Find out if he knows someone from the mafia."
"Yes, sir. Anything else, sir?"
Nicholas scanned the documents again and saw an unfamiliar name.
"John Lawson. I never heard of this guy."
He knew every business man in the country, especially those who made more money.
"He's your father in law's business partner. And the one in charge of the project. I already did a background check on him and he's clean."
"Are you sure? You know there's no room for mistakes, Frank. A guy who moved in here a year ago from another country without any property, but now the owner of five-star hotels? Isn't that suspicious?"
Frank gulped. He knew he already made a mistake by saying that the guy was clean.
"I apologize sir. I'll check the country where he came from and dig from there."
Nicholas chuckled, but he wasn't satisfied with Frank's answer.
"No. For someone like him, you should dig everything. And when I say everything, that includes his family background, his parents, his grandparents, when was he born, what's his childhood like, the schools he attended, his friends, girlfriends. Everything and leave no single detail about him. Understand?"
Frank nodded. "Yes, sir. I'll get it done asap."
Nicholas didn't respond. Frank wasn't just one of his bodyguards. He was a former CIA agent and one of the best. So there was really no room for mistakes.
"Sir, we found the driver of the van."
"And?"
"He's at the warehouse."
"Did he confess anything? Who's in charge?'
"Leo, sir. Guy was hired by Ruby Grayson's men. He didn't know anything about Amelia Lane."
"And how about you?"
"He's a taxi driver. He has two sons and his wife's eight months pregnant. Got a lot of debt so he needed money."
"I see. I'll talk to him, then."
"Anything else you want to know, sir?"
"Yeah. Harry Grayson. I want to know everything about him. And why his wife and daughter paid Mia's school to expel her. She's been living quietly for years and they suddenly got involved with her. There's something going on with the Grayson's."
Frank nodded. "I'll look into it, sir."
"Then, that's all. Let's go to the warehouse."
As the black car drove away, Mia couldn't help but wonder. What would be Nicholas' reaction if he knew that she's carrying a baby? He would definitely stop seeing her.
That would be best for her. But still, she couldn't. Thinking that she would never see him again made her heart break.
She sighed. "He's not your father, but I'm in love with him. Seeing him even from afar will make mommy happy. You understand, right?" She said, talking to the little angel in her tummy.
