Suzanne's footsteps echoed through the empty rooms of their house. She checked the study first, pushing open the heavy wooden door and scanning the bookshelves and desk. Nothing. The kitchen was cold and untouched, his dinner was sitting forgotten on the counter, growing stale. The few weeks she had spent with him was enough for her to know that something was wrong.
"Andrei?" she called out, her voice sharp with frustration.
She retracted from the kitchen, heading back to the bedroom but it was equally vacant. The bed still made, no sign of him having been there recently. She moved through the hallway, checking each room methodically. The guest rooms, the storage areas, even the rarely used basement - all empty.
