Chapter 2 - Accepting defeat

CHAPTER TWO- Accepting defeat

Steven stood there, his mind was desperately searching for a reasonable explanation as to why his beloved wife would be with another man on the day they had decided to be together. It was after work hours, and Steven could remember clearly who that man was. It was none other than the CEO of her company

It pained him to think that Amanda would be cheating on him but stung him so badly when he thought that probably money was the cause.

He leaned on the side of the wall, knowing fully well that he would soon be thrown out as the sight of a beggar near a restaurant as expensive as this might irk one of the rich customers off.

He could feel the splitting headache intensifying.

He brought out his phone and called her number. It just happened that when he was about to call her, she brought out her phone to take a picture of the man who was with her.

As her phone rang, Steven watched from the distance, praying earnestly that she would not do what he was thinking, that she would pick and tell him that it was not what he thought, that she never wanted to be with the CEO, she never wanted the diamond ring.

As the phone rang, it was as if Steven's heart stopped beating as he watched on the tension was almost killing him.

Amanda looked at her phone and saw the phone ringing, she looked at it for a long time as if deciding whether to pick it up. At the sight of this, Steven breathed a long sigh, after all, she did not cheat on him. Her boss must have mandated her to go to the dinner with him.

It's all the boss's fault. He began to feel guilty for doubting her. However, he was going to save her from the hands of the wicked boss. He is her husband, after all, he cannot turn his back on her when she needs him.

As Steven walked forward confidently. He thought that maybe Amanda had wanted him to save her. That was why she stayed at the side of the transparent glass. If she was cheating on him, they would have hidden.

But Amanda's next action stopped him in his tracks, and he could only watch in horror.

Amanda burst out laughing. See, I told you he never gives up. He's that shameless. The CEO joined her, rolling his head back in laughter.

He kept on calling, isn't the message clear? He squeezed out while trying to suppress his laughter. He's so gross that I had to send him out of my room, I wish he could just leave my sight and drop dead somewhere. After all, he's too clingy.

Steven could feel his heart shatter into pieces as he heard his beloved wife say those words.

Before he could get himself, he was standing in front of the entrance door.

He didn't even know how he got to the door, but there was one thing he knew, he had to see Amanda now.

Let me inside. The sturdy security man looked at him and motioned to his colleague, who was smaller yet bigger than Steven, to take him out. Steven didn't care, after all, his sense of reasoning had been lost. He just wanted to see his wife.

He rushed in, pushing the security men through, this could never happen, but it was because they never knew he would attempt this, after all, which beggar would try this knowing the consequences. Steven continued running and unfortunately bumped into one of the customers, he paid the customer no heed and continued running, causing an uproar. The uproar in the restaurant was not enough to distract the two lovers from enjoying their lovely night together, as they were unconcerned and continued with what they were doing. Upon reaching where they were, Steven stopped, afraid to take the next step because the look on Amanda's face woke him up from his dream. Those were the looks of someone with deep hatred. Steven called her name softly, trying to sink sense into her head, but it was to no avail as Amanda, who felt embarrassed to the core, spoke those words without flinching a bit.

Who are you?

Steven looked at her in pain, trying to swallow his spit as those words resounded in his ears.

Amanda, please let's go home. Steven spoke in a low voice, stretching out his hand.

H.h.h how does he know me?

I swear I don't know him, I have never seen him once in my life, please take him away! Amanda shouted desperately, trying her best to convince the onlookers.

Damian, the CEO, kicked into action immediately.

Take him away and teach him a good lesson, can't you see that my girlfriend is so scared

The security men, who were embarrassed about having to chase a beggar around, quickly carried out the order without second thoughts

Steven, on the other hand, was frozen. He could not speak, move or react. It was so hard for him to take everything in at once.

Steven lay down in the abandoned alley without having any intention of standing up. He knew fully well that with the severe beating those security men had given him, passing out was the only thing that his body was capable of.

He was in so much pain that he tried hard not to think about what had just occurred in order not to increase his pain.

He remembered when he first met Amanda after the terrible accident he had with which he lost his memories. Amanda had been there for him, she was a receptionist then. She used her little income to fend for him who at that time had no one. He fell in love with her then and they got married. Everything was going well at first but after some time everything began to go haywire.

He lay there for so long that he did not know how long he had been there until he heard footsteps approaching.

The owner of the footsteps stood in front of him. However, Steven made no effort to identify whoever was in front of him, as everything was blurry in his sight.
