CHAPTER 1: THE BOY ON THE BED

THE BOY ON THE BED

A young boy of about fifteen years, was on a big queen size bed, lying down in the middle of it, he was down with a fever and could hardly talk, he was shivering from cold while his body was hot, the bed was soaked with the sweats coming from his body, he has been staying in the same spot on the same bed for three days now.

Beside the door side stood his mother, a beautiful woman in her early forties, she was holding a black bucket of water and a small piece of cloth in her hands to clean her son's body, she knew that he was not comfortable with people bathing him or seeing his naked body but she couldn't allow him to remain dirty and smelly.

She stared at her sick son, she was sad as she saw the way he was shivering on the bed, he looked sick and helpless and the worst thing, his sickness had no cure, he was too young to go through this predicament, her heart went out to him.

The physician had told them that he was going to die very soon but she didn't want to believe in the physician, she had gone to the temple to pray to the moon goddess and had also gone to church to pray to God for her only son, she wouldn't let him go like that.

She walked up to her son and sat down gently on the bed, she touched his head and winced at the amount of sweat and heat emitting from him, she felt her heart clenching at the sight.

His brown and green eyes were normally bright now dull from the sickness, his lips were chapped and had flaky dead skins on them and when she touched his face, it gave off a rubbery feeling, she realized he was more fragile than she thought, her heart bleed once again.

She placed the towel in the bucket of water, squeezed away the excess water, and gently dabbed it on his fragile forehead.

She removed the clothes on his body, he weakly protested as he was not attuned to someone bathing him, after all, he was a teenager who loved his space, As she cleaned his body, furs appeared on his body revealing his wolf nature, although he was very sick, his wolf still showed up.

The woman smiled and was grateful for it, assuming her son was a human without his wolf to give him strength, he would have died by now, given that humans were more giving to sickness and diseases, unlike the werewolves.

The coolness of the water was making him uncomfortable but he didn't say anything but watched his mother, his unique eyes watching her every movement.

His green and brown eyes stared at her as she wiped the sweat on his stomach and hands, when she noticed the intensity of his gaze, she raised her head and saw her son looking at her, smiled, and said, "How are you doing today son?" She smiled not that she was happy but she didn't want to worry her son.

His heart lurched as he saw his mother smile and he relaxed a bit but he was scared "Mom! Am I going to die? He said weakly, his throat was scratchy as he hadn't spoken for three days in a row.

The woman inhaled silently, she couldn't blame him if she were in his shoes, she would have asked the same question, she forced a smile on her face as she answered, "You shouldn't ask such a question, my dear, you are not going to die, I won't allow it Richmond."

But the boy protested, "I watched the witch rain curses on me and I felt the effects immediately, I also overheard the physician when he was talking to you and Dad, he said I was going to die," the boy said as he stared at the woman with his dull green and brown eyes.

The woman maintained her smile, she knew they were werewolves and they had a good hearing but they did not talk in his presence but outside the house, because they didn't want him to hear the conversation but it was all in vain as the boy overheard them, her smile widened as she realized something, for him to hear them in this condition at that distance, he was truly going to live, she thanked the moon goddess of the werewolves and the God of the Christians, she was glad her prayers were not in vain.

The boy was looking at his mother as she was smiling to herself, he was wondering what was making his mother happy when he was telling her about his discovery, he didn't know his mother was happy to hear about his abilities.

She held her son's hands fondly and said in excitement, "You are not going to die boy, you are going to live and you are going to be happy," she said with a promise.

The boy became relieved but became worried once again, "But mom, the witch said I won't have a mate, what if I can't have a mate?"

Her smile faltered as she remembered the witch's words, "She said you would die but here you are. She said you are going to die alone but I believe you are going to find a mate, someone that will love you and care for you," she said with assurance.

The boy became happy and relieved as he listened to his mother, he found out his body became stronger as he felt relief, he became filled with emotions and he hugged his mother, to him her words were priceless and exactly what he needed at that moment.

His mother was stiff at first as she never expected her sick son who could hardly move to hug, she wondered how he got the strength but she hugged him nevertheless and rubbed his brown hair, feeling the silky strands as they passed through her fingers.
