Chapter 9: The Grand Opening ll

They were tight security standing at the door. It was really strictly on invitation.

There was a red carpet from the entrance the door to the other end.

She gulped down her saliva nervously and walked closer to the door. The security stopped her and asked for her invite.

She quickly brought out her workers ID before she was let into the premises. Her eyes scanned the entire hall that was beautifully decorated in a banquet style.

She was feeling nervous because she was going to meet her boss today for the very first time ever. She couldn't help but recall when she had called him a fool.

She exhaled and sighed loudly. She could see some important dignitaries trooping in and she could only admire them from her standing point.

Just then, one of the employees walked over to her. “ Thank goodness you are here,” Crystal heaved a sigh of relief like her saviour was here.

She stared at Crystal with a puzzled look, wondering what was going on. She could only watch as Crystal pulled her along to a lounge where she found the other employees seated.

“ She's here, ” Crystal said happily.

Andrea watched as the tense looks on all of their faces eased. ’' hi everyone ” she said weirdly.

“ This is not the time for salutations, quickly bring out the masterpiece before the boss gets here, ” Cooper said.

Andrea let out a laugh. “ Excuse me, what are you talking about? The masterpiece was in the company before I left. How possible is it with me? " she fired back.

“ What do you mean it's not with you? Then who took it? ” Daisy said with an unfriendly tone.

Andrea's heart sank immediately ” Wait! You mean someone stole the masterpiece?“ she said with a shocked expression.

“ Andrea, you better stop this silly joke and hand it over to us ” Cooper yelled angrily.

Cooper is one of the managers in the company. He had always been strict and serious; the only time they saw his teeth was only during the end of the months.

“ I will say this for the very last time. The necklace is not in my possession ” she said, already raising her voice. ever since she got pregnant, she could hardly control her emotions.

“ Okay then, since it is not in your possession, let's call the boss to settle this issue. ” Cooper said, already calling the boss's number.

Soon, the boss trooped in with two macho bodyguards behind him “ Good evening sir,” they chorused nervously.

Sean's gaze fell on Andrea, who was standing with others. She was wearing a plain ordinary loose-fitting dress.

Nevertheless, she was able to get his attention. Her looks were simple and stunning. It was so pleasing to the eye that he didn't realise that he was staring at her intensely.

She didn't look as cocky as she sounded. She looked innocent, like an angel descended from above.

' But wait, why does she look so familiar?' He thought inwardly.

Andrea felt his gaze and she raised her head and she stared at him with those emerald eyes of hers.

’’ What's happening here? “ he said in a very cold voice that was capable of sending shivers down one's spine.

” sir…sir Ms. Andrea said the masterpiece is not in her custody “ Even the almighty Cooper was so intimidated that he began to inadvertently stutter.

” What are you trying to say? That the main reason for the grand opening is missing? “ he roared angrily, making them flinch.

” I thought you all were capable of handling this little task. I should have never entrusted this job to you. A worker from the main branch is more reliable than you all. I'm sure you are all aware about the thing I hate the most messy and unorganized jobs, ” he said, getting more furious.

“ Can you imagine? ” He was sure his face would be in all the newspapers, magazines and the television with another news headlines.

” The Masterpiece and the talk of the country for the past few months is missing. imagine! ' He said inwardly

He had heard Jacob Jones, the owner of JJ entertainment, was going to be here.

Won't this be a big slap to his face? Wouldn't this only ruin his image further?

The more he thought about it, he could feel the rage burning inside of him.

He glared at each one of them with daggers” If you all don't produce the masterpiece in the next 30 minutes before the opening, you will all lose your jobs, not just your jobs. But I will make your lives miserable ” he announced through gritted teeth before marching away.

Everyone turned their angry gazes back at Andrea ” guys I didn't do anything wrong. I swear it's not me,” She said trying to defend herself, but they didn't look convinced by her words.

That was one of the things she couldn't tolerate when telling the truth, but no one seemed to believe it.

” And what makes you think we will believe you? We are all fully aware that you were thrown out of Graham's family. you are currently carrying a bastard in your stomach and you are just living as a squatter with your best friend,”

“ These are the reasons why we can't trust you, “ Daisy said with a malicious tone and the others nodded with her speech.

Tears were already brimming from Andrea's eyes ’’ Daisy watch your words, ” she said with a hoarse voice.

Daisy snorted ” I should watch my words? Where did I go wrong? or does your unborn child have a father?”she asked sarcastically.

“ I can't afford to lose my job. I'm not in for your irrelevant chattering ” Cooper said and made a phone call.

Andrea clutched her dress tightly, she was about to break down emotionally. But she knew she really have to hold it back. She couldn't afford to right now, it will only make these people even happier and point fingers at her.

They all waited in the lounge while Andrea stood still in one position like a statue.

“ ring, ring, ring ” the sounds were coming from Cooper's phone. He glanced at the caller ID and it was a call from the company security.

“ There must be news, ” he muttered and picked up.

“ hello yes, ”

“ What! ” Cooper exclaimed and hung up.

He turned and glanced at Andrea angrily. “ We were right about you all this while. The neck piece was found inside the drawer of her office,” Cooper said, and they all gasped in shock.

Andrea heard a bang go off in her head. “ I swear I didn't take it, someone must have tried to frame me ” she explained.

This time, she couldn't hold back her tears.

“ You can say that to the boss,” Cooper said and gave the boss another call.

“ Hello Sir, we found the necklace in Miss Andrea's office drawer, ” Cooper said.

Daisy smirked and glanced at Andrea's agonised look. “ You all have finally seen the reason why the Graham's kicked her out. I am sure this is not her first time stealing,” she said and everyone nodded foolishly.

Andrea was completely chagrined. She was already looking despondent. She knew there was nothing in the world she could say right now to prove her innocence after all the evidence was pointing against her.

The boss came in briskly ” Ms. Andrea, I will consider the fact that you are a lady and you are currently pregnant. So I will show mercy by not involving the cops. From this henceforth you are fired ” he said in a crisp voice.

Andrea picked up her bag and glanced at everyone with a faint smile before leaving. That smile meant a lot of things that she herself couldn't comprehend.

Sean fixed his gaze on her back and watched as her figure disappeared from his view.

“ Why am I feeling guilty and hurt? Why am I feeling like she didn't do it? ” He thought.

Andrea walked out of the building languidly. She dragged her feet along as everything that had happened there kept playing in her mind. She bowed her head so no one could notice she was crying. She didn't get to leave work with grace. Instead, she left in disgrace and was labelled as a thief by her fellow employees.

She kept walking until she collided into a man's sturdy chest. She stumbled backwards and almost landed on the ground. but she felt a warm hand held onto her shoulders firmly, stabilising her back to her feet.

She raised her head and realised she was still around the premises.she gazed at him with those glossy eyes of hers.

“ Are you alright? ” the man asked.

He could see the wan look on her face and he also noticed she was pregnant.

” Miss, why were you absent minded? And where is your husband? How can a pregnant lady wander at night? “ he said.

” I don't have a husband “ she replied and he could see the woeful look in her eyes.

“ Oh I'm sorry for bringing it up. May his soul rest in peace, ” he said.
