The Beta's Queen

Cheyenne grew up in a small pack. They kept to themselves and never had any real problems. She graduated high school a year early at the age of 17. She was starting her freshman year of college when her quiet little, small-town life got turned upside down. Her mother had a deep secret that she had kept this whole time and now it could cost her her daughter. After a visit from the Moon Goddess herself, Cheyenne is faced with a choice. One that is life or death not just for her but her kind as a whole. What will she choose?

Jax's POV

Alida and Gunner had been traveling around the world. To say they were gone a lot would be an understatement. Tora and I have been trying to keep up with the alphas here and requests they had for Alida for when she returned. Thank the Goddess Tora was more organized than I was. I didn't know how to do any of this shit.

We have been building the house back up little by little in our spare time. Chelsea was about to pop at any moment. Things just seemed to be going great. Apart from the everyday stress, there wasn't much I could complain about. Life was going great with my mate by my side.

Meanwhile, we were still checking into Tyler's mate, Stephanie to see if bringing him in as a beta would be the smart choice considering who her father was. So far there were no red flags. I would say that it would be safe to bring her into the pack, but that decision was up to Alpha Nik.

Emma did her time in the pack jail and faced her trial in her own pack as well. They only added 6 more months of community service to her sentence. So she would serve 6 months in this pack, and then be able to return to her pack to serve out another 6 months there.

Ella on the other hand. She was still in the pack jail awaiting to be transferred to the royal prison in the mountains. If the rumors are true, she's not a favorite around there. I never got the chance to know her personally, but just from the things that Alida has told me, she deserved much worse. Karma works her magic in her own ways though.

Alida's father was doing much better. He was finally back to being himself again. He still wasn't sure of her mother, but at least he was making the effort. He had come out to help us with the house a few different times. He was always a hard worker and the extra help was always appreciated.

Sam was 17 now and was almost old enough to shift. He would go on and on about what he thought his wolf would look like. I couldn't help but chuckle and shake my head at him. He was just a kid and having to wait until he was 18 to shift because of his rank was killing him.

Eli was the same way, although he was only 16. He was jealous that he still had 2 more years to wait for his wolf. I joked around that he needed to start being more aware of his surroundings because you never know when something might happen that would bring his wolf out earlier.

Take Alida for example. She got hers shortly before she turned 18. The boys claimed it was because she was royalty and they are not. I told both of them not to dismiss that fact so quickly, and that they needed to talk to their mother about that one.

One day while we were working on the house, Tora received a phone call. She wondered off so I couldn't hear it, but when she returned something was off. Her whole aura had changed. She wasn't smiling anymore. She was nervous, scared, not to mention pissed. I tried to talk to her but she just walked away tell me she needed a moment to calm down before she did something she would regret.

I knew enough about dragons now that when she said she needed to calm down, then I needed to let that happen. As much as my lycan didn't want her to be alone, we both understood why it had to be this way. Dragons don't have as much control over their spirit animal like we do our wolves. When they got pissed off enough, it would force the shift. Then there was potential for great danger and destruction.

After she calmed down she came back to the house and we sat on the porch. I just held her and after a bit I felt her calm down. She finally told me that the phone call was from her father. He's not happy and wants her back home like yesterday. When she told him no, that didn't help. Good thing he doesn't know where she's at otherwise I'm sure he would've done shifted and been down here in a matter of hours.

That night I called Alida and gave her the daily update on things around here. I told her about Tora's father and my concerns and she told me to get ahold of Charlie to see if he could help until they could get back. I thanked her for the advice and then hung up the phone.

I knew I had to do something but just didn't know what. Hopefully Charlie would be able to help me with this. He's been around for a long ass time and knows of other species. I was hoping he would be able to give me some insight on how to handle this and protect Tora incase her father did randomly show up.

Tora and I haven't completed the mate bond yet so it was hard telling sometimes with her. She wanted to wait until the house was finished and we could truly "enjoy" the experience alone. As hard as it was sometimes to reign in my lycan, I respected her wishes.

We did joke about what our future kids would look like. Would they take after me or her or a combination of both. Could you imagine a lycan with wings? Or a dragon with a fluffy tail and paws? The mental imagines were just to hilarious not to laugh at but the possibility was there. That's probably something else I should ask Charlie about, I thought to myself.

I laid down that night next to Tora and wrapped her up in my arms. She was already asleep but I still whispered that everything was going to be ok. She stirred slightly and then I felt her relax against me. I smiled and fell asleep.

Whatever was going to happen, was going to happen regardless of what I did. I did know one thing for sure though, I was never going to let her face any sort of trouble alone. We were mates and I intended to show her how love is supposed to work and feel.
