The Beta’s Mate

WARNING R18: Violence and Mature Content. VOLUME ONE: The Beta’s Mate I was minding my own business, shooting arrows mindlessly at the target. When he came out into the clearing. A huge, beautiful, silver wolf. Next thing I knew he was on the ground in front of me, an arrow sticking out of his chest. He was minding his own business, scouting, when he caught her scent. His mate. His wolf started running before he could think, but he was just as ecstatic. He slowed as he reached the edge of the forest, and he saw her. She was beautiful. He moved forward and the next thing he knew there was an arrow sticking out of his chest. VOLUME TWO: Given to the Hunter I looked at the tall man and he stared back at me with the same hollow eyes. I wanted nothing to do with him and I’m sure he wanted nothing to do with me. “Go on.” A voice spoke. I closed my eyes and took the man’s large hand. He stared at the small woman in front of him, her dark eyes stared back at him, hollowly. He wished he could go back in time so that he would never have to experience this, but it was too late. He was here, and he was being forced to take this woman. He shoved his hand out for her to grab and her small hand reached out to it. This is an original work not translated. This is my plan for the series so far: Vol. 1: The Beta’s Mate Has cute romantic moments, steamy moments, intense moments with the bad guys. Vol. 2: Given to the Hunter Has sad moments with cute moments and healing. Mystery. Vol. 3: The Consuming Darkness Innocent romance between darkness and softness. Vol. 4: TBD Vol. 5: TBD Vol. 6: Charmed by Lightning This is a prequel to the previous books, not necessary to read but it does explain some things. WARNING: This is Author's first book. If you like it, give Hydrangea of Crescent a try.

Chapter 147

Raphael scratched his head furiously as he looked at the map spread on the table.

It wasn't the same mountain pass that he'd fought in before but it was sure familiar enough. He closed his eyes to centre himself then he began marking the map.

"Here, here… here and here, not there. Not there… here, here." He marked off the best places for ambush and attack and marked off the places not to go to.

The main point was to get the Elves away from the Haven long enough for the Faerie to strengthen their borders and to move their kind into their hidden caves.

Once they were as safe as possible they would move in and hopefully the enemy will have retreated.

Amelia had said that there would be Elves, but she hadn't told them how many.

He sighed and rested his head on his hands, his elbows sitting on the table.

"Knock, knock." Thomas announced his presence as he walked into the bunker.

"Man, it's depressing in here."

"Thank you." Raph mumbled as he got up to look out the small window that was the main cause of heat loss in the small building.

"No problem. How's the plans coming together?" He asked.

"No plans yet, starting from scratch still." Raph replied.

"I see." Tom walked over to the map and observed it, "What about here?" He pointed to a section on the map that he had marked off limits.

Raph scratched his head, "That's Blower's Pass, to much danger of an avalanche."

"But what if we could use that against them?"

"It's possible, but at what risk to us?"

"Eh, you're right. But we should keep it in the cards just in case."

Raph nodded as he perused another map that detailed where the hidden camps were.

"Any word from Brooke?" Thomas asked taking a sip from his coffee.

"Nope." Raph said without looking in his direction.

"You worried?"

"No, should I be?"

"No, probably not. She's tough."

A smirk grew slowly on his face, his mate was certainly tough.

~~~~~~~~
"Kratos! My word! Can you keep your body in your side of the car for two minutes, please!" I yelled. This man was being a child.
"Do you never say, 'My god?'" He asked and I rolled my eyes as I focused on the road.
"No."
"Why not?" He asked kicking his wet boots off.
"Because my gramma never liked it when we said it, so I've just never said it." I replied. I'd like to keep my gramma happy, wherever she is.
Kratos laughed, "That's sweet."
I picked my phone up and very carefully found and called Raph.
"Here, talk." I handed it to Kratos so I could drive.
"And to whom am I speaking?" He asked and I shook my head with a smile. Strange, strange man.
~~~~~~~~~

Raphael looked down at his phone that was buzzing with Brooke's picture from their first date.

He nearly lunged for it, "H-hello?"

"Is this Brooke's mate?" A male voice asked.

Raph immediately tensed and his wolf growled.

"Who is this?" He asked darkly.

"Ah, this is Kratos, your uncle through your Alpha." Raph could hear laughter, Brooke's laughter, through the phone.

"Is Brooke there?" He asked.

"Yes she is, but she has asked me to talk while she drives."

"I thought it was responsible!" He heard her voice and attempted to hide a smile at her attitude.

"Why am I being called?" He asked.

"She says that you worry." Kratos answered.

Raph felt like putting his fist through a wall but decided against it, "I assume you're on your way here."

"Yep." Came the Lycan's reply.

"Excellent, when you get here I'm in bunker nine, just be sure to-"

~~~~~~~~~
"Well, he seems interesting." Kratos said as he handed me back my phone.
"Did you hang up on him?" I asked aghast.
"Yep, he said that he's in bunker nine. Figured that was all we needed to know."
I rolled my eyes, "Text him and tell him that I'm sorry for Kratos's behaviour." I handed the phone back to him and he did as I asked.
After a few seconds of silence passed Kratos broke it by saying, "I don't suppose you have any classical music on you?"
"Nope." I answered.
"Hm."
We continued to drive in silence, I like silence much better when I'm driving than when I'm a passenger.
"Where are we going exactly?" He asked as I drove through the narrow dirt road that led to Crest Pack.
"To one of your brother's packs." I answered simply.
"A little out of the way." I heard him mutter.
After driving for nearly all day we arrived at the front gates.
I stopped the car and got out, "You can stay, this should only take a second." I said under my breath.
I couldn't sense where any of the stealth wolves that I knew were out there were.
I licked my lips, "Hope?" I called and soon heard the sound of footsteps. A woman appeared from the bushes, wearing a gold chain.
"Who's in the car?" She asked her bright gold eyes looking menacingly behind me.
"Thresh's help." I answered, knowing that these wolves probably wouldn't like it if there was an Alpha of another pack sitting in my car.
Hope sniffed the air, "Who is he?"
"No one you need to know." I answered feeling a little nervous as this woman was a foot taller than me and right now her claws were extended.
She squinted her eyes in mistrust but nodded, "Very well." -They can go in.- she mind linked and the gates creeped open.
I got back in the car and buckled up.
"What's with all of the stealth Lycans?" Kratos asked.
I looked at him shocked, "You can sense them?"
He let out a short chuckle, "And you can't, strange."
"Yeah." I replied as I began to drive through the mostly hidden pack.
