Chapter 82: A Collision Of Fate

Illandria stopped as Adam put his hand up. He pointed for her to go into the forest, then flashed more complex signs to Bart, who showed no evidence of hearing other than vanishing into the forest opposite from Illandria. Adam crept down the road. She was briefly tempted to follow him, but she hadn't heard what made him so cautious. Safer to wait.

The forest became still, then rustles betrayed birds and squirrels going about their business. The hair on the back of her neck crawled, and without hesitating she climbed a tree careful not to disturb the animals, but then something made them go quiet.

"Don't know why we got to scout ahead. Nothing's around but trees."

"Captain hears you talking on duty, he'll cut out your tongue." The other voice came low and cold.

The pair continued down the trail. After walking beside Adam and Bart, their footsteps sounded loud.

A bird whistled below her, she looked down to see Adam perched in her tree. She climbed down to him.
