Chapter 44: The Aftermath
I wake up to the sound of voices conversing amongst each other and open my eyes to see I’m in what looks to be a medical ward. The numbing pain on my shoulders starts to buzz and stir me out of my sleep, and I turn my head to the door where the shadow of two people behind it argue.
“I understand you want to be here for her when she wakes up,” One says, “but you must help prepare for the funeral service. You’re the next Alpha for Selene’s sake, imagine what they would say.”
“And imagine what they’d say if I leave without my Luna.” A hoarse voice speaks up. “I can’t very well leave her to wake up all alone wondering where she is. Gabe and Scarlet are already directing everything, what’s wrong with me being a little late for my mate?”
“Ray…”
After some time, the other sighs, and I hear the sound of their heels click away from the room. “I’ll give you another hour. After that, I better see your a*s helping out back on our turf, you hear?”
“Yes, mother.” Ray says drearily.
