Survive or Die

She had to survive, no matter what.

That was the only thing on Ruelle's mind as she kept running down the hallway. She could have left, but she had to find Eloise first.

Geography class, El had mentioned that she was having geography that day and it was down the hall.

Ruelle, sprinted towards that direction, ignoring the sounds of screams coming from outside. She was the only one in the hallway as most people had already escaped or were hiding.

They were most definitely dead but she didn't want to think about that.

She released a breath when she saw the classroom in front of her and she slowed down. She made a silent prayer as she held the door handle.

"Please, let my sister be alive." She whispered as she twisted it and entered into the class.

Blood, blood was everywhere. She took in a breath and shook as she looked at the dead bodies on the floor. She made a move to walk into the classroom but she tripped over an obstacle and she fell on the floor.

"Shit!" She winced as she looked down to see what had made her fall.

She grimaced when she saw that it was the lifeless body of a girl. The girls mouth was open as though she had died screaming and her eyes looked lifeless. Blood smeared her clothe and her dress was torn all over.

Ruelle, covered her mouth to push back the naesouness, she wasn't going to throw up now. She also pushed back her tears and stood up slowly. She had to find her sister.

She walked further into the classroom, inspecting the dead bodies and praying as she neared each one that none of them would be her sister's. She released a breath when she failed to find her sister's body.

"Thank God." She whispered. But, she felt guilty after she said that. How could she be happy that other people had died?

Tears, rolled down her cheeks slowly. She was grateful her sister wasn't dead but every dead person, was someone's sibling, lover, enemy, family and friend.

Ruelle turned around and ran out of the class, careful enough not to step on any person. She didn't have the luxury of time to cry or mourn any person, she had to find her sister first. Then, get out if this hell of a town, if they survived.

If they survived.

Where would she have gone to? Think, think! This school was just too big but that also meant many hiding spots. El, had to be in one of them.

She was about to give up when she thought of the toilet. Why hadn't she thought of that. She turned to the left and ran towards the restroom. If she didn't find her there, she was ready to search every nook and cranny of the school if she had to.

Ruelle entered the door leading to the female's toilet and began to look from stall to stall. She tried her best to be quiet and not call El's name in other to prevent being spotted by the attackers.

She was about to give up when she got to the last stall and opened it. On the floor, sat a girl, sleeping, wearing a pair of shorts and a blue top.

Ruelle's face, brightened up when she saw it was El. She bent down in front of her and shook her knees. Only Eloise, would sleep in such situation.

"Wake up El." She said hurriedly.

Eloise, opened her eyes slowly and her green eyes watered as though she cried herself to sleep.

"Rue, I'm not dead?" She gasped.

"Not yet but we will if we don't get out of here. How did you even fall asleep?"

Eloise, rubbed her eyes and sat up. "I was here when the attack begun so I just remained here."

"Why didn't you lock the door at least? What if they entered here?"

Eloise, looked at her in a confused manner. What was Ruelle talking about? "Of course I locked the door, I'm not that dumb. Both the main door and this door."

Ruelle's eyes widened in shock as she analyzed the situation. "How then did I come in?"

"I thought you had the master key? I'm lost."

Goosebumps, formed on Ruelle's hands. What the hell was going on? First an attack, people dying, then Tyler's speed paired with his eyes changing color and now her opening locked doors? Was she finally losing it?

"Well, we don't have to think about that." Ruelle concluded. "At least not now, let's get out of here first. If I could open that door, I believe someone else can."

Eloise, stood up and picked up her bag that she sat on. "let's go home." She said as she held out her hand to Ruelle.

Ruelle, nodded and clasped unto her hands. They were going home, away from all this madness and chaos.

They walked out of the restroom and began making their way down the hallway. The hallway, was empty and quiet, all sounds of shooting had ceased.

Eloise, gripped tighter unto Ruelle's hands, it was a signal that they should be careful even though they could see no one.

Ruelle, held her breath as she saw the exit door few steps from them. Now they could escape, they were free. She looked at El, and smiled brightly, this was indeed a miracle.

They began walking faster towards the door but the sound of a heavy metal being dropped behind them, stopped them. They both turned simultaneously to see what had made that sound.

A few feet from them, stood a man, covered in blood, holding a dagger in his right hand and a dead female head in his left hand.

He released a laugh that sounded as though a pig were grunting. "Where do you think you ladies are going to? I've been waiting for you guys to make it this far, chasing you now will be more fun." His eyes widened in excitement as he looked at them.

Ruelle, shook in fear. They were being hunted. He was the predator and they were the prey. Without thinking twice, she let go of El's hands and pushed her towards the door.

"Run!" She screamed and she began sprinting towards the door.

The shout, pulled El from her shock into a state of consciousness and she began running towards the exit.

Once Ruelle was at the door, she flung it over and waited for El to get closer before she pushed her outside with herself and slammed the door shut from outside. She, picked up a log and used it to block the door handle as she had often seen in movies.

"El" Ruelle, paused to look at her sister that was kneeling on the ground and gasping for breath. "I need you to keep running."

El, looked up and frowned. "Of course we'll keep running, he might use another way."

Ruelle, shook her head. "No, just you. I'll be a diversion."

"Are you sick? Hell no Rue, we leave together." Eloise desperately blurted out.

"Just trust me."

El, squeezed her hands as she looked at her sister. "Why do you always do this? Play the role of the sacrificial lamb?"

"Just listen-"

"Don't" Eloise raised her hands to cut her shut. "You're not my mother Rue, so I don't need you to do this. If we die, we die together."

Tears rolled down Ruelle's cheek. Was this all she could do? Was this the end for both of them? She shook her head at this thoughts.

They were not going to die, at least not right there.

She walked to the right and looked at her sister. "I saw a metal warehouse just a few steps from here on my way to school, we can hide there."

Eloise, nodded and they began running towards the warehouse. This was their last resort. They paused when they were at the door. On the floor, was a set of keys and they tried it on the lock. They both released a breath when it opened.

"Thank God it's open." El whispered.

Ruelle smiled at her sister as she looked at her. "Indeed."

Ruelle took a step back and pushed Eloise inside with as much force as she could and then, slammed the door shut and locked it.

Eloise, banged on the door. "Open the door Rue, don't do this! Please"

Ruelle, cried as she heard the panicked voice of her sister. This was her last resort and she had made up her mind, they both didn't need to die.

"Forgive me El. "

"I won't, I'll never forgive you!" She yelled as she tried to force the door open. "Please don't do this." Her voice lost it's strength and all that could be heard was the sound of her sobbing.

Ruelle, turned back and began to sprint in the direction she came from before she tripped and fell. "Not now, please not now."

She stood up, and began running, ignoring the pain from her leg, her heart and her sister's voice.

She stopped when she was at the school exit door and took a deep breath in when she saw the door had been ripped apart. She shook as she looked inside and saw the man, standing with the dagger still in his hand.

"You think you could escape me? Your head will be next!"

Eloise, began running, faster than she had ever done in her life. Her sister's life was on the line, she had to keep him distracted enough.

She tripped again and fell but she immediately stood up. "Not now" she cried internally. "For once let me run without falling!" She screamed as she stood up.

"Your efforts are futile, I'll kill you."

Ruelle kept running and for the first time she prayed as her last option. She prayed for a miracle, a savior, someone.

Ruelle's vision, became blurry and she shook her head before she looked up again. She gasped as she saw a huge forest in front of her. It was never there, where did it come from? Was this the miracle she prayed for?

Ruelle, kept running towards the forest. If this was her only chance of escape then she would gladly take it. She ran into the forest and felt a strong force pulling her back but she refused to give in and she pushed her way inside.

She tripped on a branch, and fumbled. She rolled into the forest in top speed and stopped when her body hit a tree.

Ruelle coughed up blood and held unto her now injured waist. She tried to stand up but she fell right back, she was at her limit.

Tears, rolled down her cheeks. At least, El would have escaped, she had done her part.

The sound of her chaser's laughter, froze all her thoughts.

"You think crossing the border will stop me from killing you? I don't know how a mere human like you managed to cross it but your attempts end here."

Border? Human? What was he talking about?

"I'll rip you apart and eat that courageous heart of yours." His eyes widened with excitement and his teeth were covered in blood.

He raised his dagger to stab her and Ruelle, closed her eyes awaiting for death and shook when she heard the sound of a scream.

Was it coming from him or her?

She shook her head at that thought. She felt no pain so why would she scream?

She opened her eyes and the biggest wolf she had ever seen in her life stood on the man, eating him. She watched as the wolf, tore his neck before it fed on his heart. She was too flabbergasted to even breath.

The man's shouts stopped and the wolf, flung his body aside. It turned towards her and her eyes widened in fear.

It was as big as a wagon, as dark as charcoal and, she was going to be its next meal.

God truly has a sense of humor, sending an animal to kill her instead. But at least, it was better than being defiled by a man.

She gripped a tree and was ready to be attacked but was surprised when the wolf continued looking at her.

The wolf took a step in front of her and it's fur began to fall off untill there was a cloud of fur and a naked man stood in its place.

Ruelle's eyes widened in shock at what she had just seen, and she became cold. What was going on?

"Hello, Ruelle."

Ruelle's eyes rolled back and she became lightheaded, the last thing she remembered was the man reaching out to her as she passed out.

Everywhere was dark and the smell of blood filled her nostrils.

Dust that filled the air seemed to choke her slowly, wrapping it's ashen hands around her neck.

She struggled to break free but her body seemed to have a mind of it's on, chosing to remain static.

All she could do was stare, look into the dark air and hope that she would catch a glimpse of light.

She began to lose hope until she saw a ray of light coming closer to her and as it drew nearer, she could make out a figure of a slender being with hair that flowed down it's back.

Was it a man? She questioned herself. It probably was but who was he? And why was he here?

"Help me!" She longed to scream but, her voice could not be heard. Her throat burned as she tried to scream but like a baby, no words could come out.

"Help me!!" She screamed to herself again but this time, it seemed as though he heard her and he stopped walking.

"Yes, face me." she begged as she looked at him with hope. He turned after some time and the most beautiful set of silver eyes stared down at her. He was beautiful.

"I am afraid I cannot help you now."

Did he just read her mind?

"Yes I read your mind. However, I'm afraid I must leave you now but be patient, I'll come back for you. "

Wait!!!

"Sleep now my love."

With those final words, every breath was sucked out of her lungs, and a blanket was placed over her face.

She began slipping away into the abyss but the sound of her name pushed her back to reality.

"Ruelle."

"Ruelle!"

Gray eyes, opened up at the last call of her name. She released a breath as she turned to look around the room where she lay.

Where was she?

She struggled to sit up but fell back on the bed she was on.

"Careful, you'll get hurt." A voice cautioned.

Ruelle, turned to look at whom had spoken and her eyes widened in shock we she saw the same man that had saved her earlier. The same person who had turned into a wolf, or was she hallucinating?

"Rue, I missed you"

Ruelle, sucked in a breath as her sister threw her hands over her and embraced her.

"I was so scared, I thought I'd lose you... You've been asleep for hours... I was scared I'd never see you again" Her words, becoming inaudible as she cried the more.

Ruelle, patted her back, trying to console her sister while trying to figure out what was going on.

She looked around the room, trying to take in everything. The decor was too lively. It looked as though a rainbow had vomited there. Asides that hideous fact, it was quite spacious and clean.

Her eyes, lingered on the picture frames of tables around her, her brain trying to figure out the unknown faces.

Her attention, moved to the man that had saved her. Tall and blond, he was quite good-looking when she was not hallucinating. His attention was on a newspaper which he seemed to be enjoying. As though sensing her gaze, he looked up and smiled warmly at her.

Ruelle gripped her sister's body tightly. If by chance she were not hallucinating, then they were most likely in danger.

"I won't hurt you." he said, in a more calm voice than she had expected.

"I don't trust you." She countered

He smiled at her before nodding in agreement. "As expected."

Eloise, continued sobbing, totally oblivious to what was going on.

Ruelle, studied him. He looked buff and seemed to have an edge around him. He seemed like one that had money and status. "Are you trying to sell us for drugs?" That was the only logical reason why he would have saved two young adults whom had no significant net worth.

Eloise, finally stopped crying and separated herself from Ruelle.

"He saved us sister. We could have died"

"More reason to not trust him. Do you know what I saw?"

"I have a logical explanation." The man said.

Ruelle, shook her head at him. " If your logical explanation does not make sense and defys laws of nature, then I'd rather not hear it"

"Sister, just listen."

"Listen, so he'll poison our minds the more? Hell no, I'd rather not."

Eloise, crossed her hands and frowned. "Just give him a chance to explain."

"Maybe he has drugs in his mouth. Who knows?"

"Firstly, my name is Koa" He stood up from his chair and walked to her. "Since you'd rather not hear me, why don't I show you?"

Ruelle, shook her head vigorously, remembering the encounter she had with him. "I'd rather not see that."

"Then what do you want?"

"Tell me who you are and where the hell we are. You better not lie because I promise to sever your pretty head off." She threatened.

He chuckled before his expression turned serious. "I'm Koa and I saved you and your sister. I know this might found weird but another world exists which is more crazy than the one you're used to."

"So?"

"Well then, I'm a werewolf"

"You're joking"

"I'm not. It sounds crazy but believe me."

"Prove it."

He titled his head and smirked at her. "You told me not to show you."

"I've changed my mind, prove it."

"Very well then" He stood up from where he sat and stepped back.

Right before her eyes, steam formed around him and in the place where he once was, a giant wolf stood.

Ruelle, could no longer push back the dizziness that came and she fell back against her will on the bed and as she lost consciousness, she heard her name echo and she prayed that she'd meet the silver eyed man in her dreams, again.

She didn't.
