Cool Story #240

"I did not possess June Moone's body," The Succubus replied, shaking her head. "Dzamor made it so that we shared her body, though she was in control," She added.

"June Moone was a pure soul, or that's how Dzamor described her. He hoped she would influence me to become a force for good," The Succubus explained with a chuckle, doing air quotes with her fingers.

"Ultimately, the more she used my power, the more influence I had on her, and my demonic nature triumphed over hers when she suffered through a near death experience," She continued, pausing for a second as she turned to her former host body.

"Though unconscious, she will recover in time, as I did not have control for long," The demoness remarked, shaking her head. "However, the same could not be said for Lawrence Eden," She added, raising an eyebrow as Nightshade lunged at the energy barrier keeping her in place.

"You shut your lying mouth, filthy demon!" Nightshade angrily said as she smashed a clenched fist at the barrier. "My brother isn't so weak! He can't be gone!" She added, clearly on the verge of breaking down as her fist shivered and slid across the energy shield.

"Deny it all you want, girl. We demons are higher beings, even if you mortals refuse to admit it," The Succubus said, grinning as she watched Nightshade's expression sink deeper and further into anger.

"Your flimsy, finite souls cannot endure our essence for long without breaking down into countless tiny little pieces sooner or later," She concluded, shrugging her shoulders.

I frowned at the Succubus' words but said nothing. I already expected something like this, but damn, do I hate being right sometimes. I sighed as I approached June Moone to check on her vitals, and she seemed to be doing fine.

I moved on to inspect her mind. It was a mess, but it was undoubtedly there. Furthermore, it was slowly but surely rebuilding and sorting itself out, confirming the Succubus' words.

I approached Nightshade's brother and performed the same test, which gave me the same results. However, Lawrence's mind was even more of a mess, showing no signs of healing or life.

"I'm sorry, but it looks like she's telling the truth..." I said, letting out a sigh as I put a hand on her Nightshade's shoulder, and it immediately slumped as she heard my words.

"His mind is a bloody mess, but I'm not sure if it's related to his psyche or soul as the Succubus claimed..." I added, frowning in deep thought as I trailed at the end of my sentence.

"If it's his soul, then there's not much anyone can do..." I added, and I could immediately feel Nightshade shivering at mo words, so I quickly continued.

"But if it's his mind, then someone like Martian Manhunter might be able to help him," I said, sighing as I watched Nightshade slowly turn to me, her expression a mixture of complicated emotions.

"Please don't get your hopes up too high..." I said with a wince as I moved my hand from Nightshade's shoulder. "It's just a theory," I added, to which she could only nod.

"Either way, there's not much we could do for your brother now. Take him and Ivy and go back to earth," I concluded with a sigh, to which the heroine nodded again before creating a portal.

She quickly went to her brother, pausing to give me a long look before dragging him into the portal. Poison Ivy silently watched Nightshade leave before covering June Moone's body in vines and following behind the heroine.

"This has been interesting, at least," Poison Ivy said as she stopped at the portal and smiled at me. "I'll be waiting for you to contact me when you get back," She said as she stepped into the rift without waiting for a reply, taking June Moone with her.

"Can we go now to Azarath now?" Virgil impatiently asked as he watched Poison Ivy leave. "Seriously, dude, it might be too late already," he added, his tone urgent as he gestured for the temple.

"Not yet," I said, shaking my head as I turned to the Succubus. "I still have to deal with this one," I added, crossing my arms as I coldly stared into the demoness's eyes.

"Oh? So my time has finally come?" The Succubus said, letting out a calm smile. "Go on then, I won't beg," She concluded, shrugging her shoulders and closing her eyes.

I looked at her for a moment and raised an eyebrow before I chuckled and shook my head. "You're free to go. Get out of here," I said as I dismissed the barrier keeping the demoness in place.

"I won't thank you for sparing my life, either," The Succubus calmly said, promptly vanishing as she teleported away before I could even reply, much to my amusement.

"I'm all up for showing mercy and not killing, but was that really smart...?" Virgil said, scratching his head in confusion as he watched me turn around and head for the temple.

"Maybe not. I guess I'll have to wait and see," I said, not bothering to explain as I entered the temple and headed straight for the portal with Virgil following me.

"Now, how about you tell me about this so-called Wildebeest Society that's causing everyone so much trouble..."

...

"So, to make a long story short..." I said, tilting my head to dodge a red laser beam. "The Society is a bunch of stray thugs and criminals who hate the teen titans...?" I said, stepping forward and burying my fist into one of the Society's mercenaries, knocking him out.

"More or less, but there's more," Virgil said as he flew into the air and rained electricity on a crowd of mercenaries, causing them to fall with smoke coming out of their bodies.

"This place is called Azarath. It used to be a haven for magic users or something," Virgil added as he continued to fly in the air, releasing a wave of electricity beneath him.

"Then Trigon showed up, murdered everyone, and turned the place into a wasteland," He added, watching as his electricity knocked out everyone unfortunate enough to be within its range.

At his words, I couldn't help but pause as I looked around, and I couldn't disagree. Wasteland was the only word I'd use to describe this place, as it had nothing but ruins as far as the eye could see.

Unlike the Land of Nightshades, which felt like a proper world or a planet, Azarath was a lifeless island floating in the air. However, there were clear signs that the place was once flourishing, with many people living here.

"Being the big asshole he is, Trigon corrupted the souls of the people who died here," He explained, his eyes widening as he got distracted and hit me with his electricity, cutting my chain of thought.

"Sorry about that..." Virgil said, sheepishly scratching his head, and I could sigh as I knocked out the last mercenary and gestured for him to keep talking.

"Anyway, the evil spirits of Azarathians didn't seem to appreciate being dead, so they tried to possess Raven since she was one of them," He added as he flew to the ground and stood in front of me.

"You know Raven? Dark hair, blue eyes, broody, a total babe," He went on, letting out a chuckle, to which I nodded. "Anyway, they couldn't possess her because of magic...?" He explained, not sounding too sure of his own words.

"They possessed another Teen Titan instead, Jericho," Virgil remarked after a brief pause, giving up on trying to explain. "Jericho took control of the Wildebeest Society somehow and started kidnapping people for the evil spirits to possess," He added, sighing as he scratched his head.

"They didn't seem to like possessing regular people either, so they had Jericho start kidnapping Teen Titans instead," He said, letting out a bitter chuckle.

"We tried to stop him, but as it turns out, a gazillion evil magical spirits possessing you had its perks," He continued, wincing as he seemed to remember something particularly unpleasant.

"Jericho suddenly turned super strong, and he could call this super spirit lion or something that totally whooped our asses," He added, stretching his palm as he created a replica of the said lion with his electricity.

"He caught us, but then those hot demons suddenly showed up while Jericho was away and dragged me to that whacky place where we met," Virgil said, shrugging his shoulders. "Cool story, right?" He concluded, chuckling as he awkwardly scratched his head.

"I give it a seven out of ten... but I get the idea. Let's get going,"
