The Auspicious Nights

WFP#37 BRONZE WINNER COMPLETED # UNDER EDITING It was a bright and sunny day. Okay. Sorry about that. It was not a bright and sunny day rather a dark and stormy night even worse was the pelting heavy rain that beat onto earth with a fury enough to rival the battle of the Greek gods. The stars that had originally decorated the sky during the earlier part of the night were no longer visible. The full moon whose brightness had outshone the twinkling stars was now pitifully hiding behind the heavy dark cloud. If one could understand the language of nature, its terrified cry of sorrow could be heard. In the middle of a forest stood a majestic castle whose architecture outshone every other thing that existed near and far from it for almost a hundred miles. This was the castle that no one had access to except the owners who were made up of a small family of six. As the rain fell with an increase in speed every second that passed by, a slender figure could be seen lying in the center of a humongous bed. The slender finger could be seen tugging at the duvet trying to disappear within its warmth. Long brown curly hair was spread neatly on the pillow as the small face disappeared under the heavy purple duvet. A few minutes passed by with the slender body sleeping peacefully without any disturbance. When the clock struck midnight, everything began to change. The once majestic castle that shone brightly was shrouded by a thick and heavy fog such that it became invisible to ordinary eyes. .......@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@........ The Mark of Royalty

The two sat on the bench both lost in their own thoughts. Zamarad's eyes were still on the anklet that was in Arsalan's hands. Her hand moved to touch her abdomen where the mark was. how significant is the mark on my body? she thought.

Arsalan on the other hand was thinking about how much information he could give to the butterfly who sat on the bench in deep thoughts. She was a beauty who had some wild personality and a carefree spirit. It wont hurt to share the history behind the mark with a harmless human right?

"why did you pick this anklet out of all the jewelry that was on display?" he asked out of curiosity. The girl looked up at the man and decided that it would be safe to lie about her mark. " I just like star gazing at night hence the intricate pattern of the anklet attracted my attention. Is there something wrong with it?"

"Not at all. I was just curious. You have exquisite taste in jewelry. Do you want to hear about the pattern of the anklet?" Zamarad nodded trying hard not to display how eager she was to hear about the mark on her body.

" A long time ago, this land was occupied by the Djinn clans who were the original occupants of Qamarstan. They were initially divided into three classes: the Ghoul who are known for being treacherous spirits with the ability to change forms), the ifrit clan who are known for being evil and diabolic and the si'la who are also known for being treacherous and appear in invariable form.

The Ghoul sub clan was known for being comprised of mostly female gender. They were treacherous and were always confused with the Si'la clans. They would change forms and take on a figure of a beautiful female, attract the attention of their victims and eat them.

The ifrit sub-clan were the warriors and the leaders of the clan. Like the humans the djinn would copulate , marry, give birth and live like the human. The major difference , however , was that they preyed on the humans and their desires.

The witches would enter into a covenant with the si'la and the Ghouls who would then make the lives of the human who was the subject of the witchcraft experience hallucinations, nightmares and other magical things associated with witch crafty.

It was one of such covenants that bore a magical creature stronger than any other the Djinn clan had ever seen. One of the most beautiful djinn was sent to disturb a man named Assad.

This was because a human female who was in love with the man got rejected by him. He was one of the most handsome human that have existed in his era. Unlike the rest of them however, he was a man who liked to keep to himself. The female out of desperation went to consult the witches who entered into a covenant with Maymuna.

The Djinn was sent to make the man fall in love with the human through his dreams but she ended up falling in love with him. He was a strong man who could resist the charms of the Djinn and the influence of their magic. He was a being like no other and fascinated Maymuna for he could resist her.

That was the beginning of the romance between a Djinn and a man who was really not human. His origin was known to neither man nor Djinn. the female seduced him until he fell in love with her.

their intimacy bore something that has not been in existence before. The child born of Assad and Maymuna bore the mark that was later recognized by the entire Djinn clan as the mark of the royals.

the moon surrounded and serenaded by the stars was that mark. the descendant grew up early . As she grew up, she portrayed strengths and characteristic never possessed by any other djinn. She had the human feelings and features but also had the strength and characteristics of the Djinn.

The first sign of a new and special characteristic occurred when she turned twenty years old. Her marks glowed and her features started to change. She became the first female warrior to outdo the males of the three major clan.

she then worked to unit the sub clans as one and formed a kingdom where there was order and peace. Though the Djinn are known for being unruly and mischievous creatures, under her rule, civilization was born and the reigns of the royal began.

The mark was her weapon that she used to subdue each and every other supernatural being. It was natural and ingrained in her blood for her to command everything invisible and visible.

Hence began the reign of the Djinn over the other supernatural beings. The babies born of the royal clan had the mark but only the strongest had the privilege. It didn't matter the order of birth but the strength of the child determined whether he or she will be the heir or just a regular warrior under the Ifrit.

Thus with the mark of the royals to subdue others the reign of the Djinn lasted until twenty years ago when the members born to the queen then all lacked the mark. The former king passed on the ladle to his first and only son who was instructed to wait for his one.

The one who was strong enough to resist the Djinn's temptation like Assad many years ago. The one destined to be his spouse. The only one whom he could tempt and the only one who could tempt him. " Arsalan finished his tale and looked at his companion who had been listening attentively.

" What do you think of the tale? unbelievable right?" Zamarad looked at the man. Her heart was pounding so hard as she processed the information she just obtained. So she was destined to be the Queen of the Djinn? How did that even happen?

" I think its a beautiful story though it sounds like something straight out of a book. To be honest I don't believe in the existence of supernatural beings but thank you for taking your time to tell me about the tale of the royal mark. I enjoyed listening to you. Can I have the anklet now?"

"Of course, here you go." Zamarad examined the anklet in her hand and felt as though it was made for her. She had lied through her nose simply because she didn't trust the man enough to expose the fact that she had such a mark on her body. She had a baby to protect and the best way was to keep everything to herself.
