Chapter 50: The Mission Function

A day had passed since that incident, and the ninth elder, thankfully, has never visited me to take me to the disciplinary department.

After some meetups with my siblings, Flare gave Cordelia to me, saying that it was my turn to take care of her. I'm not against that since Cordelia is a pretty behaved child but I would restrain myself from cursing around her, I don't want her to learn those words. Besides, she's my child now, I gotta protect her young and innocent mind from the harsh reality of this world until she's of age.

And by "of age" I meant, never.

Sitting on my sofa, with Cordelia sleeping on my bed, I stared at the number of my kill points.

[Kill Points: 190,000]

It hasn't increased since the moment I entered the sect, and it is slowly decreasing. I need to find a way to earn KP before it's too late! I should've known that buying random stuff in the [Shop] was bad! I blew all of my KP into things like weaponry and manuals, mostly manuals.

Well, my reason for buying weapons is that scythes are cool. You can't argue with that.

The bad thing about it is that I can't use a scythe properly, and I might cut off my head accidentally.

That's why I bought a manual for a scythe style, which is quite cool, honestly. But I did blow 20,000 KP on that, which makes it hard to swallow for me since it's just the basics. Imagine if I have to buy divine manuals, that would be a nightmare.

Anyway, there are gauges in my status screen for what level I am in my fighting styles.

{Basic Scythe Style: Level 2}

{Playful Monkey: Level 4}

{Basic Sword Style: Level 3}

If I reach level 10, I will be able to upgrade them to advanced and I'll have to buy advanced manuals, which will cost a hundred thousand or so… yeah, I REALLY need a way to grind and farm tons of Kill Points. But no one in this place sells insects! Insects are the easiest way to get Kill Points, and almost no one here sells them alive!

I can't buy outside of the sect because the nearest civilization aside from the sect is a thousand kilometers away, which is the Leaf Kingdom! I could, in all likelihood, travel there alone but the sect would never allow me to go outside unless I am a C-Class disciple and is doing missions.

Sect Missions are only given to C-Class and above, which makes it worse for me, since I am a D-Class Disciple. And I can't take the rank battles for a month because some random boney guy decided to try and kill me for some reason!

Is there a way for me to rank up? I need to think.

[You know; you could just talk incite a rebellion in the sect]

'Stop trying to convince me to sacrifice souls to some god of killing or something, because that will never work. I may kill needlessly sometimes but I don't want to just incite a rebellion. I'm too lazy for that.' I replied in my thoughts.

[Well, your choice, not mine]

I suddenly thought of something, and asked tutorial bot curiously, 'You said some time ago that I haven't fully unlocked this thing yet. What do you mean by that? And do some of those functions help me get Kill Points?'

A bit of silence, then he spoke, [Yes, like the "Mission" function. This function can only be unlocked if you are able to solve a thousand problems without the use of violence. And if I can guess correctly, it is highly likely that you will never be able to do that]

'That sounds interesting, tell me more about it.'

[The "Mission" function has 6 genres for many types of missions. These are the only available genres for now: Adventure, Rescue, Help, Mystery, Survival, and Horror. You have to know that all of your strength, mana, and items will be taken away from you. Your knowledge and skills are the only thing going to keep you alive in the missions, most of the time. The difficulty of the missions will depend on the number of stars it has; 1 star, the easiest, and 10 stars, the hardest. These missions should not be taken lightly as you need: survival instincts, be able to use your words to save people, don't have the faint of heart, a survivalist, and a very good detective. You basically have to be everything, and that is expected of someone who can save thousands with just his words. And keep note of this: You will be transported to another world and dimension. And the time there will be 4 times faster than the time here, which is a great thing for you]

'Hmm, so does saving a kingdom count as saving thousands of people?' I asked.

Silence filled my head, and then…

[… Damn it, why are you so smart? Can't you just be less logical and be dumber?]

'No can do, mister. Anyway, can I get a mission? You know, just for testing the waters?'

Honestly, I'm kind of excited at this prospect. I swear to my creator that this is probably the second best thing he ever did, as you all know that the best thing he ever did was create me.

Imagine going to different worlds and experiencing a lot of things!

[Ah, of course you can!]

Hmm, this is weird. Tutorial bot sounded way too jolly. This guy's never been happy the entire time I ever met him. He sounds like he hates his life most of the time.

[But you'll have to pay two hundred-thousand Kill Points for the entrance fee, you f*cking twat!!]

Aaaaand, there it is.

A lot like the devil, isn't he?

Anyway, I really want that mission, so I'll have to grind for some Kill Points. But how, you asked? That's what I want to find out.

Currently, I can't go out of the sect, and if I can't go out of the sect, I can't find any creature to kill to gain KPs, and if I can't kill a mass amount of creatures, I can never gain the right amount of KP to buy the entrance fee for that mission.

So, how do I get a lot of Kill Points? Well, there is the "Beast Tower". The Beast Tower is where disciples of all ranks go to challenge each floor that contains a number of magical beasts. There are a total of 100 floors in the tower, but instead of it being erected as the marble pillars, it is below the city.

For them to call it a tower confuses me since it contradicts what the word "tower" means.

The entrance of the underground tower is located near the city lord's office, which is at the center of the city.

It'll take me half-an-hour to reach the city by foot but if I fly, I might be able to go there in a few minutes, max.

Though, I have another problem; Cordelia. I can't just leave her alone.

So, with a heavy heart, I decided not to enter the beast tower yet. Maybe in a week or so, once I've given her to Vane.

I was sleepy, so I decided to sleep beside Cordelia. I climbed the bed silently so that I won't wake her up. Then I laid beside her, making sure not to wake her.

So, yeah, there will be something like that in this novel. BUT, the missions have to be bough with entrance fees, which, I assure you, is a lot more expensive than just a measly 200,000 KP.

And, I will be adding a lot more functions later on. This mission function exists for fillers only, I'll probably write a lot of those fillers. Hope you guys don't mind.

Don't worry, once I get contracted, I'll be posting two chapters a day. Though I wish my brain is a little bit cooperative since it's hard writing 3000 words a day.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter, stay well, and as always, thank you for reading!

And don't forget to drop some stones!
