Special Assignment

Association Base in New York City, NY

The boss was once a formidable agent by the name of Cobra, and his years behind the desk had made him lazy. He had gained weight, and the League of Medical Staff for the Association had informed him of his high blood pressure and his diabetes at his latest yearly physical. He had gotten an operation done to fix this, but with his weight and diet the conditions had kept returning. He knew that even with the extensive medical care he could receive, he didn't have much time left. That was why he needed a secret assignment completed by his trusted agents, Hades and I.

We followed the boss into his office, a soft white room with plants everywhere. With the lights giving off the same chemical compound as sunlight for the agents who didn't spend much time away, the plants were thriving even underground. The screen on the back wall behind the white desk showed a world map with red dots scattered everywhere. These dots were the active agents on missions throughout the globe. The boss took a seat and motioned for us to sit in the chairs on the other side of the desk.

"I have a mission for the two of you," he started, loosening his tie. The short walk from the main room to his office had left a sheen of sweat on his forehead. "With the astounding creativity you showed with the Murchadha case, you're obviously the best choice for this." He hit a button and turned to face the screen on the back wall. A man with sparse brown hair and brown eyes appeared. The statistics on the ride side of the picture stated that the man was forty two, worked at a law firm. Divorced with no kids.

"Where is his location?" I asked, right at the moment Hades asked, "What was his crime?"
