The Investigation

The next few day, Kanalaa have been nothing but occupied day and night that she and Alistair barely see each other despite working in the same company and of on the same floor.

"Atty. Reese, a package for you." Their receptionist called in their office to inform her about the delivery for her.

"Thank you, I'll pick it up." Kanalaa immediately hang up the call then proceeded to go down.

She has been waiting for this mail but it took almost a week to come. Regardless, she's still glad that it came now. This delivery will tell her if her investigation have come to conclusion or there is a need to further it. As soon as she got a hold of it, she opened and discreetly took a peek and see if it is indeed the package she's been waiting. The envelope consists of pictures and printed documents of detailed report. She put them back inside before going to her office. Fortunately the office she is in right now gives her a separate space and partition so she could have a privacy unlike the one in Alistir's office. Despte wanting to open it in his office she knows she just simply can't. The source of the informatin he's holding is very confidential.

"Call me on my personal number the next time I have a mail, okay?" Kanalaa ordered the receptionist, handling her business card.

The receptionist accepted it then bid to Kanalaa she walked away.

Upon opening the envelope, it revealed sevsral photos of Atty. Riles with the opposing party of the cases they'v lost to. On the recent captured photos Atty. Curtis was on it, too. The printed documents contained the details of time, date and location of each meeting and who are involved. She's doubting that Atty. Curtis is involved however, it's yet to be proven.

Kanalaa was pulled out of her reveleries when Atty. Mendez' voice rang in the office, "Atty., I'll call it a day now. How about you?"

Kanalaa stood from her seat with a smile on her face to see Atty. Mendez before answering, "I'll stay for a couple more of hours, Atty. A lot of paper works need to be done." She excused when in fact she'sdone for the day except for the investigation. It is important but it can't hinder in her real work.

"I see, what a diligent woman you are! Take care, okay?" The old Attorney reminder.

"Yes, thank you. You too!"

After making sure that she is gone, she went to the door to lock it then went to the center table to scatter all the papers and photos she received.

Upon scanning and studying the timelines, she confirmed everything. However, she has to provide more evidence, like a solid one that could pin the attorneys.

"I need some help," she started.

"A greeting won't hurt, little one." The gentle voice on the other side stated. Yet, no matter how soft it sounded, Kanalaa ignored it then, continued to her order.

"I'll give you a number then run a message and call history to all the possible communcation application. I need it as soon as possible." She uttered quickly and indifferently.

"This won't be free,"

Kanalaa rolled her eyes unconsciously like an automatic response.

"I'm aware of that. Send them in a mail. Don't call me, wait for my call," she warned in monotonous voice.

The gentleness is gone, only threatening voice came out of the phone speaker, "You don't get to tell me that, Kanalaa Reese. Come back before I show up."

Kanalaa hung up. She clenched her fist tightly because of the frustration clouding her. She slumped her whole body on the couch and closed her eye trying to ease her mind. However, as she's been working for years now, it only hightens her unease. She wants to finish this quickly, if possible today or tomorrow.

Still feeling unrest, she stood up then cleaned up the table before picking up her bag and car keys. While walking going to the parking lot, she made a phone call.

"Hi, are you home?" Kanalaa's voice came through the phone, sweet and melodic.

"No, I'm out with Pierre. We're discussing some matters. How about you?" Alistair's tone calmly.

"I'm going to dad. I'll stay there for the night since grandy and granny are there. Don't stay out late and get a decent sleep." Kanalaa's voice softened, reminding Alistair.

"Of course, my love. You, too. Since you're going home, don't bring work with you. Spend time with your family, okay?" Alistair's voice was gentle and reassuring, his words filled with genuine affection.

"Aye captain!" Kanalaa's response was playful and lighthearted, punctuated by a cheerful chuckle that warmed Alistair's heart. Her laughter sounded like music to his ears, bringing a smile to his face.

"Take care on your way home. I love you," She uttered dreamily as she momentarily forgot her worries and basked in the affection she felt for Alistair.

"I love you most," Alistair's response was filled with sincerity and love, his heart swelling with affection for Kanalaa.

She then gently pressed the end call button, a contented smile gracing her lips as she looked forward to spending time with her family.

Kanalaa thought that sometimes you only need to pause for a little while. Take a step back to move another two step forwardly. In this life that is tiresome, look for a home that you could rest in. She believes that everything is balanced. You can't be miserable for the rest of your life and so you can't be just happy.

People tend to say they're scared that after experiencing happiness, sadness or misery will follow but that's the beauty of the world. How could one know what the real misery is without feeling happiness and how could one know what the real happiness is without experiencing misery. Therefore, the world is balanced, everything is balanced. However, to some, they just continue to fall in abyss because they refused to see the light. A worship without action is nothing. Our life is in our hands.
