The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Not your biggest problem

I sent out a shockwave of electricity through my feet into the water. The air great jumped using his air to stay out of the water, and the water great just moved her water away from her. Unlucky Mathew didn't react fast enough to stop himself from getting another shock to the system. The water great was the bigger threat between the two of them. The air great was pretty powerful with a reserve that was about double what mine was.

I couldn't even tell how much mana the water great had. She was a truthfully terrifying existence. What scared me most was the fact that she still hadn't shown me any hostility yet. She was about as indifferent to this fight as she might be looking at the menu of a subpar restaurant. I rushed toward the air great.

I'd get good XP for either one of them so if I managed to knock the air guy out of the running I'd probably level up, and then I'd have that much more strength to deal with the water great with. I didn't need to kill them to get XP either. Just needed to beat them senseless. I ran lightning through me as I got ready to use my lightning movement skill. Something above us made me skid to a stop.

Abandoning the entire notion of attacking them anymore. Why is a rift opening here? It can't be. My space element had reacted to the spatial manipulation before it could even begin to disturb the mana in the air around it. I was slammed back into the ground by a wave of water, and bound down with ice as a foot slammed into the space between my shoulders.

The wind great started trying to yank my hands up, and behind my back.

Storm dragons wrath deactivated.

Suddenly it got a lot harder to stop my arm from being yanked up behind my back. I tried raising my head to look up only to have it slammed back down.

"Don't," the wind great snapped.

"No," I turned my head so I could look at him with my golden brown eye, "You should let me go."

As soon as he saw my eyes his expression twisted. I tried to calm myself, but it was really difficult with a rift about to open over my head.

"Really," I spit out some water that had gotten out of my mouth, "You're going to need all the help you can get in a minute."

"Shut up you fucking Archaic," he spit all over my face in his rage.

"What are you trying to say Archaic?" the water great came to stand next to my head.

"I'm not your biggest problem here," I focused on her.

She was a chubby woman. Not fat. Just a bit softer around the edges, and curves. Definitely no super model, but I think she probably would have looked horrid as skinny as a super model. She wore a simple blue dress with long sleeves, and her hair was cut in an interesting style where the left side was chin length. Her hair got longer as you went around the back of her neck, and was shoulder length on the right side.

The slight curl the last two inches of her hair had gave her a certain style that just seemed to fit her. Without me realizing it looking her over had made me calmer, and my eyes reverted back to normal.

"What makes you say that?" she looked up.

Maybe trying to see what I had seen.

"There's a rift opening up there," I tried to look as well only to have my head slammed back down, "You'll sense it soon."

"What makes you think we'll believe a single word that comes out of your mouth?" the wind great let pressure off my head only to slam me back down.

"I could have killed your little student anytime during that fight," I went deathly still, "It would have been as easy as plucking the head off a flower."

He drew his knife, and stabbed me in the shoulder with a single swift motion. The blade only went in about halfway, and the only reaction he got from me was a few sparks, and a clenched jaw. Confusion crossed his expression for a second before he went to pull the knife out. I clenched my muscles tight around the blade. He wasn't going to get it out as easily as he got it in.

He tried yanking the blade out for it to only slide a few millimeters, and the rest remained stabbed into my shoulder.

"I could have killed him," I kept talking with he knife still in my shoulder as if nothing had happened, "And yet I didn't. I just thrashed him like the abusive little asshole he is."

The water great looked like she was seriously considering what I was saying while the air great just looked like he wanted to stab me again. Still struggling to get the knife out of my shoulder.

"Mages are a rare resource," the air great snapped, "You probably came here just to kill one of earths rare few mages."

"I was born on earth," I grumbled, "Why would I work against her?"

"Born on earth," the air mage snapped as he finally got his blade free, "Earth has no natural archaics living here. What a bold faced fucking lie?"

He went to stab me again only to be stopped by the water greats water.

"He's not lying," she stated simply without taking her eyes off the sky, "I've been tracking his pulse this whole time."

I swallowed nervously. Truthfully terrifying.

"He could just have great control over his body," the air great argued.

I took his minor distraction as a good opportunity to start healing myself. I had to go slow so he wouldn't notice the cut on my back healing.

"Stop," A familiar voice shouted as her footsteps in the water became clear, "Let him go."
