The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Killing the elf

The elf started coughing up blood from his decimated insides. His skin pale, and his stride uneven. I lowered my body close to the ground, and started prowling towards him slowly. Like a cat stalking prey. My mouth hung halfway open as I salivated at the thought of what his blood would taste like.

My breath hissed as it passed around my teeth. I got tired of scaring him, and launched myself forward. My teeth clenched around his neck, and my hands pinned his arms down when we fell. I kept tightening my jaw muscles until my teeth sawed his head clean off. Most of his throat was still in my mouth.

I flicked the chunk of meat to the back of my throat with my tongue, and swallowed. Then I stepped off of his body, and walked away from the carnage I'd just caused.

Low elf killed. 75,000 XP awarded. Quest complete 800 people successfully evacuated due to users direct interference. 80,000 XP awarded. Level up.

"Not bad for a stupid animal," the wind great mumbled out between breaths.

"I could say the same about you stupid mage," My vision suddenly went blurry.

My body felt so weak as my scales started growing dull, and losing their shine before falling out in bulk. New scales replaced them just as quickly as the old ones fell out. My head had drooped so my neck was just barely hanging an inch off the ground. My size increased noticeably.

"Hey," a distorted voice that had to be the wind great's made it's way to my ears.

System what's happening?

Warning. User is evolving into dragon adolescent. External changes nearly complete.

External changes?

Internal changes require user to become inactive for 72 hours.

Why can't I stay awake?

Evolution consumes large amounts of mana as well as natural cellular energy. Staying awake during the evolution could do damage to internal organs that are trying to evolve to support users body.

"Hey beast," wind great snapped his fingers next to my head the exact moment my hearing cleared.

The sudden sharpness of the sound caused me to flinch away. Flinching away made me stumble, and I fell on my side.

"What happened?" Savannah's voice reached my ears as she rushed over with Ethan.

She drug my head into her lap.

"What's wrong Wyatt?" Savannah leaned into the blurry vision of my right eye.

"Just tired," I started curling up as my mind went just as fuzzy as my vision, "See you when I wake up."

My body went completely limp. My mind followed shortly after. All thoughts vanishing until all there was, was a dark empty room.

"You're growing faster than I thought you would," I recognized the dragon queens voice.

I leapt to my feet in the empty space around us. I looked around quickly. I was in the Forge of Worlds again. It had changed since the last time I was here. Now the space that represented space was completely filled in, and the very top of the one that represented light was starting to turn white.

"So what?" I gritted my teeth, " Why am I here again?"

"No reason in particular," She smirked.

"I was kind of in a situation," I fidgeted.

"They won't kill you," she spoke confidently.

"What makes you so sure?" I snapped then remembered just how much bigger she was than me, and continuing in a softer tone, "If you feel like telling me."

"You've painted yourself in a good light to at least one of the human mages known as a great," she answered in a relaxed manner, "Another doesn't see you as just an enemy anymore."

"How do you know?" My tail started lashing nervously.

"I've seen this future," her smirk grew into a smile, "You will have to give something, and summon her to survive it. She's already reached out to you. All you have to do is pull her to you when she does it again."

"It's gonna hurt isn't it," I stared at my hands.

"Nothing worth having come without a price," she paused, "The price may differ depending on what it is, but that's not the real question. The real question is," she inhaled slightly, "Are you willing to pay that price?"

Burst of chapters for my readers. Unfortunately this is the end for now. I will be taking a break from this story to do some editing, and unsquash my brain. The Archaic Dragon Mage will be returning October 1st. Please keep voting for me, and there is an edited version of volumn 1 on amazon right now. I keep my content free on here by keeping it unedited, and raw as first draft material. I may work on some of my other content just for the fun of it. And Thank you.

I Thank all of you for reading my work, and giving me your support.

PS I will be enjoying your agony over the cliffhanger. ;)
