The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

I snarled loudly as the blood began floating upward. Coming up, and off of Ethan as well as all the ground it had been sprayed all over before shooting toward his still standing body. The blood rebuilt his head as if nothing had happened to him at all. Rage made me hate that he remained unharmed even though I'd literally knocked his head off. Most of this anger came from the frustration of the meeting that didn't seem to be going anywhere.

I just lashed out at Letty because he could take the damage. I slashed at him with my claws only for him to catch my slashes, and hold my entire upper half in the air above his head with ease. I was more than a little surprised when Letty started fighting me seriously. It actually felt good to fight someone on an equal level that I didn't have to worry about killing. I kept trying to kill him over, and over again until all of my anger was spent.

Ethan had moved back, and watched it all go down. The speed at which I moved was difficult for him to follow, and some of my larger movement caused bursts of air to fly out around me. My tail trembled as my muscles cried out in exhaustion for the first time since I'd reached adulthood. Letty was stronger than me. He was the only one I could just have it out with without worrying about killing him.

He was a perfect sparring partner for a creature like myself. He was ancient, and powerful. His presence may frighten me, but that made him the perfect teacher.

"I want you to teach me," I shook of the exhaustion.

Letty looked at me with a raised brow. He was the image of a perfect butler as if nothing had just happened to him.

"What exactly do you intend to learn from me?" Letty asked.

"Combat," I laid down to properly relax all of my muscles.

"Just combat?" he smirked.

"I'm not a rocket scientist," I shrugged, "Fighting is what I'm good at."

"Actually you are quite poor at combat as well," Letty stated bluntly, "So many wasted movements."

I was a bit stunned by this criticism. I thought I was doing pretty good. Obviously I was wrong about that. I snarled at Letty for openly criticizing me. Letty knocked me aside as if I weighed nothing with a quick wave of his hand.

He didn't actually touch me, but the force of his power was absolute. I quite literally didn't stand much of a chance against a beast like him.

"You're far too young to be snarling at me like that little dragon," Letty placed his hands behind his back.

His eyes were looking up to me, but the power radiating off of him made me feel as if he were as tall as a mountain. Looking down on me as if I were an insect. My scales stood on end as my body reacted to the fear he made me feel at that moment. Letty's aura retracted, and that feeling of immanent death lessoned. Going back to the feeling of danger he normally gave off.

"I have no problem teaching a young dragon king how to fight properly," he replied respectfully.

I nodded after properly being put in my place by the ancient vampire.

"But first," He summoned a blood red blade to his hands.

The blade was paper thin, and the handle rested nicely in his grip. The blade itself was shaped like a katana, and it's aura felt exactly the same as Letty's when he unleashed his full power.

"Do you know what this is?" Letty showed me his blade.

"No," I felt my head going down submissively despite my status as a dragon king.

"This is what you would call a soul blade," Letty began to explain, "A soul blade is the only kind of blade that can grow with its user. All other blades will slowly become to weak for a creature like you to use. I broke so many useless little blades before I created mine. You will create one."

"I'm not all that good at forging," I snorted, "Any blade I create will be junk."

"For you to have a soul blade you must create it yourself using your own flesh, blood, and soul," he swiped the blade to the side away from us.

A swath of red energy left the blade, and cut through the earth to his side. The cut was over a hundred feet long, and seemed to take no effort at all. The blade itself hadn't even touched anything. I could tell that the damage went far beneath the earth. Letty casually made the blade disappear.

This wasn't some kind of spatial effect. The blade just vanished into thin air. The aura of death just vanished with the blade.

"That sounds a little intense for a weapon I might not ever use," I snorted.

"It's the only weapon you'll ever need," Letty smirked at me, "A blade that can handle your full strength no matter how much you grow. That should be very tempting for someone like you."

"And I have to forge the blade myself?" I looked at him skeptically.

"You can't create a soul blade without forging it yourself," his smirk slowly dropped, "It would probably benefit your dragon kin to make one as well, but he has more time than you to craft one. You do plan on enacting this plan of yours in a year do you not?"

"Yeah," I nodded confirmation, "I do want to go to the elven world in a year."

"Then it would be wise of you to create a proper soul blade," Letty sat down on a large rock, "A proper soul blade would be a weapon your enemy could never take away from you. That would be a great asset to you considering the fact that you plan to remain in human form while your enacting this plan of yours. Everyday starting tomorrow you will forge a blade from your own flesh, and blood. Only one of those blades will become a proper soul blade."
