The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

That was the only image that felt peaceful, but the peace felt temporary. I got the impression I needed to find that place. Ethan rubbed behind my horns gently. Settling my scattered brain. Definitely wouldn't be falling asleep with the time element active again any time soon. I'd gotten the impression that her visions were much clearer then that image driven nightmare I'd just gone through.

I couldn't even grasp the conversation that had caused me to get so lost in my element anymore. I swallowed the egg back down to the egg pouch again, and shook off the feeling. The one that felt the closest was the three wyverns. The grassy place was important, but we weren't going to find it for some time. It was somewhere on earth.

That much I was sure of. The question was where on earth was it. Did it even exist right now? Was it a place that the return of dragons would bring about? I didn't know anything about that place, and yet it felt important.

My wings were pulled in tight to my body. I didn't know how long I was going to have to wait before those images came to pass or if there was a way I could change some of them. I'd have to run the images by the others. They might know more then I do. I stood up casually, or at least I was trying to be casual.

My wings twitched as I looked around the village cautiously. It was hard to act casual when I felt so shaken. Most of the images felt bad. The grassy field was the only one that felt safe. I mentally called my bonded to me before heading toward Goliath's house.

Aurora had already stuffed herself inside the house. Barely fitting into the house. I knocked on the door to invite them out. Goliath came out first. He looked at me with a bit of concern before moving aside so Aurora could come out.

I described the images in detail to them all when they arrived. I was a little confused to find Bryce was staying in Goliath's house. He was exhausted. Not an early riser like the others. Bryce looked at me funny when he came out to find us having some sort of meeting.

He rubbed his eyes before turning around, and going back into the house. I didn't blame him. I'd wanted to sleep like that when I'd been younger. I turned my attention back to the others. Waiting for their thoughts.

I'd only given them descriptions of the images themselves. Not the impressions I got from them. I didn't want them to be swayed by my own impressions. I wanted their personal opinions. My wings twitched as I started to get impatient.

"I don't think there's any point in trying to interpret these images right now," Savannah shrugged.

"We're not even sure that these images are part of your future," Jax mumbled.

I didn't like this subdued version of Jax. I didn't argue since we'd grown a little closer since he'd found out that grandpa wasn't grandpa. He just needed time to adjust slowly. Ethan was the only one who could feel the same impressions I'd gotten from the images. He was worried.

I could tell that he was incredibly concerned about the battlefield images, and the three wyverns. The one that worried me the most was the dragon statue turning black. I didn't know if I was projecting or if it really did look like me. The fact that it was turning black bothered me more then anything. I snorted as I thought about it.

I really hoped that I was wrong, and that this image had nothing to do with me. I opened my wings slowly as the sun raised. Offering my wings up as shade. I hadn't thought of it before. I could hold them up all day, and all night without problem.

It didn't bother me at all.

"Which image do you think will come to pass first?" Goliath asked.

"The three wyverns," I shrugged.

"That doesn't sound good," Goliath's big hand went to his chin.

Wyverns were powerful beasts in the eyes of humans. It was hard for me to think of them as weak with my own experience of near death. Yet I didn't feel like those three wyverns would be the end of me. I was a lot stronger this time then I had been the last time I'd faced a wyvern, and Jax was right. Just because they were images of the future didn't mean they would come to pass.

Regala had told me that there were many different possible futures multiple times. Part of me wanted to voice my disagreement with Goliath's opinion. Yet I couldn't bring myself to say anything. How close I'd come to death stopped any words from getting past my throat. I stood slowly.

Savannah had the phone. She'd let me know if anyone contacted us, and wanted my help. My wings twitched as I slowly stood. Drawing them back in was easy. I walked out of the village, and up the hill to the peak by the tower.

I concentrated on making a lightning crystal. I wanted to make two of them today. My mana regenerated faster on earth. On another planet I didn't stand a chance of regenerating enough mana to make more then one crystal in a day. I relaxed back into the soft dirt after I finished making one crystal.

I wanted to make another crystal, but I'd have to regenerate enough mana to do so. That would take some time. I used a small amount of mana to create my own little solar system again. I focused on water since it was my strongest element. I wanted to fuse with the water element before this whole wyvern thing happened.

I was glad that this exercise didn't cost me much mana. It was a repetitive thing that drove me nuts, but it worked well. It advanced my elements faster then anything I'd ever tried to do before. The only elements I'd had that improved this quickly on a regular basis were lightning, and space. I was stuck at lightning fusion level one.
