The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Moderately accurate area map - quest update overlay - Killer Queen - enemy approximate locations marked on map.

A bunch of red dots on the map outside of the guild compound popped up within my line of sight. A single large golden dot appearing in the most concentrated group of red dots. I nearly choked on my own spit. The inspect skill was more useful then I thought. I smirked to myself.

Knowing the location of an enemy was a huge advantage. Even if it was only an approximate. Now how would I explain this ability to the others? I guess being a magical creature was a good way of going around an explanation. I could cheat my way past explaining everything.

A location spell that requires a map was a believable explanation. I guess the thing I needed to worry about the most is the direction that our mutual enemies are moving. I scanned the map again, and the vast majority of the red dots had moved. Every time I used inspect to scan the map I'd see the location of the red dots change. Then the dots would slowly fade from my vision.

I'd need to scan the map again to see the dots once they faded. Interesting. I flared my wings as the last bit of my anger faded. Scanning the map again experimentally as I looked at the settlement. There were three red dots within the settlement.

All within the security office. It was the only building in the entire compound that had ability disabling materials. Between the disruption pulsars, and ability dampening walls Vernon, and his two goons wouldn't be able to do a damn thing. What threw me off was the green dots on the other side of the settlement. It didn't show normal beasts so whatever it was wasn't normal.

The scan didn't show the guild members either. Just the spiders, and Vernon's group. Plus these green dots. The green dots were an unknown variable. Maybe I should investigate them.

I felt a jolt in my core. It wasn't painful. No a jolt wasn't an accurate description of what I felt. What did I feel? It felt as if something was coming closer.

I'd never felt anything like this before. I stood up. I wanted to be closer to whatever this thing was. I flicked my tail. Hitting the button that opened the door with that single flick of my tail.

The four guys that had brought me my food, and Clifton were all outside waiting. Ethan was leaned up against the wall just outside the door. I looked at him with my warm brown eye. Ethan definitely wanted to come with. I crouched to allow him onto my back.

Ethan smirked before jumping onto my back using my leg as a step to make the jump from the ground. Surprising all five of the men who were watching. I cursed myself quietly for losing the saddle. I started striding away from the warehouse. The guys started the Humvee, and followed behind me as I strode along.

Walking toward the source of this feeling. This odd attraction. I didn't know what was causing me to feel this way, but I didn't hesitate. Whatever it was I wanted it. I stopped walking when whatever it was somehow ended up behind me.

I turned around, and started heading the other direction. The vast majority of the people in the settlement avoided me entirely. Those that were brave enough to look out the windows or stand on the street all watched me with caution. My tail flicked back, and forth curiously. I ended up just outside of the airfield.

The thing that seemed to be calling me was up from here. My eyes focused on the skyline as I looked up for whatever was coming down. The square bottom of a shuttle caught my eye. I focused on it. That feeling was definitely coming from the shuttle.

My belly touched the ground gently as I stared at the shuttle. What was in there? Why was I so interested in it? Ethan climbed up the spines on the back of my neck slowly. Shifting himself up so he could sit on my forehead.

He noticed my eyes were locked on the shuttle above, and focused on it as well.

"What are you waiting for?" Ethan asked quietly.

"Not sure," I kept my eyes on the prize.

"You're making our friends more then a little nervous," he smirked.

"I'm not all that worried about them at the moment," I glanced down at the worried onlookers, "They'll loosen up once I help them kill the spiders."

Returning my attention back to the shuttle once I'd acknowledged their presence. We only had to wait for another twenty minutes before the shuttle was landing. Confirming that whatever was attracting me here was in that shuttle. It didn't take the shuttle long to actually land. My tail flicked casually as I waited to see what had brought me here.

As soon as the doors opened a white blur rushed out the doors. Slamming into my neck. Nearly knocking Ethan off my head as a warm bulk wrapped around my neck. Goliath followed behind after the ramp finished descending. If Goliath was here that meant the warm white mass wrapped around my neck was Aurora.

The question was why was I attracted to her just now.

System has detected a compatible mate. Physical response to female presence has been triggered. Female is not mature. Physical response is minimal.

My wings flared in alarm when I read the notification. I swiped the notification away with my eyes, and chose to focus on Goliath for the moment.

"What are you two doing here Goliath?" I frowned.

"Savannah called us after you got injured," Goliath waved off the pilot of the shuttle, "I thought that you might like my aid in the coming fight."

"The help of a giant would be nice," I mentally checked if Ethan had a good grip before pulling Aurora off my neck.

"Hey," she complained as she tried to cling tighter.

"Stop it Aurora," I pulled harder, "Let me get a good look at your new scales."
