The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

Elves thought humans were fools, and I thought the elves were fools. Just another day in the life of someone who often got ignored if they weren't showing off. Ethan's power was hard to defend against, but he hadn't amassed enough mana to be considered a real threat yet. Savannah had been fine tuning her ability to break spells with the minimum amount of mana since we got here. I really didn't mind her choice of training.

Her mana supply wasn't that great so it was the best option for her. I strode up the steps one by one. False confidence padding every step with more power then I cared to mention. It was a convincing act. Ethan, and Savannah falling back just made it even more convincing. They weren't at my sides defending me.

That gave my enemies the impression that I could handle myself. I felt the dragon made weapon coming for me. No dragon would strike their king. The blade stopped in the air before it could hit me.

"What!?!" was all he had time to say before his blade turned on him.

Practically leaping out of his hand as it lashed out at him. I sheathed my sword, and allowed the blade to come to my hand. The blade had a strong affinity to fire. It allowed me to cast fire spells without using my core. The flames created from my new blade were bolstered by the power of my purified mana.

To the people around me it appeared as if I'd magically taken the royal guard's blade, and used the flames against him. They probably thought that was my power alone. I allowed them to misread me. It wouldn't be the first time a dragon weapon was used against me. By the time I reached the top of the steps the city was in flames.

The residential areas were spared. I had no interest in the regular citizens. Two thousand wyverns strong said I could do pretty much whatever I wanted for a few hours at least. I planned to settle this faster then that. I didn't come here to play. My newest bonded trusted me completely.

I was going to reward him for that trust. I stepped into the throne room calmly. To them it must have looked like I owned the place. That swag angered every single guard that could see me. The queen didn't react at all.

I had to give her credit for that. The four guards she had positioned around Sekka, and his mother didn't have any emotional hues either. Actually now that I got a better look at them I was sure that they weren't alive at all. Golems maybe necromancy. I wouldn't put it past her.

She was a mystery to me. Even Letty showed some sort of emotion. It was almost as if she didn't have any emotions at all. She smiled at me as I dropped the dragon weapons. They hovered in the air around me.

I'd collected five on my way up the steps. Four if you considered the twin daggers a single weapon. I ignored them as I drew my black blades. My inability to use magic had left them both highly unstable. They wouldn't last much longer even if I wanted them to.

Might as well get what use out of them that I could. My soul blade sang. It wanted to devour the dragon weapons. I would allow it once I was done with them. The spear, the twin daggers, the curved serrated one sided light sword, and the hammer.

All were interesting weapons. The sword specialized in fire, the spear water, the hammer earth, but the twin daggers interested me most out of them all. They were pure black. As if they'd been constructed out of pure darkness. That led me to believe they focused on darkness based attacks, but I didn't think that was all they could do.

They were some of the most powerful weapons I'd handled besides my soul blade. I twirled my black blades as if they were just fun little batons as if I was just on an evening stroll. Once I was completely surrounded they all struck at once. They weren't underestimating me anymore. I'd managed to get in here so I was strong enough to be a threat.

I swung the spatial blade, and poison coated the other. They didn't see the poison since it was just as black as the blade itself. The spatial blade wiped through flesh, and space as one. They were the lucky ones. They were dead before they could feel the pain.

I felt the spatial spell backlash onto my arm. The only reason it didn't slice through my flesh as well was my unbelievably high resistance to spatial attacks. The screams of the men behind me that were poisoned filled the hall just for a few moments as the poison turned them to stone. I was too focused to enjoy the screams of my kills. I tapped my blade on my shoulder casually as I walked towards the queens final defense.

She had her children, and a few of her elites by her side. I scanned them all carefully. Some of them were strong enough to give me trouble, but the queen was the only one capable of ending me in a single hit. I waited about a hundred steps away from them. A casual flick of my blade waving them forward in a way that said your move.

Her son took it as an invitation to fight. He rushed forward. Power arched off his fingertips as he summoned his soul weapon. A normal weapon wouldn't be able to block a soul weapon. At least that was what he thought.

I didn't even bother to move because the element he was using was my favorite. The blade struck me on the neck. It didn't cut me though. The lightning went through me without resistance. Becoming my power as it circulated through me.
