51. About to connect to the others, or not?

Commander O'Briant shook slightly thinking about the pictures he saw while ago. ''Those zombies became smarter. What will happen to our families? That shelter is not as safe as this one.''

The soldier just shook his head. ''I have no idea, but Miss Thompson has always kept her word. If she said they are safe, then they are. But for how long, that is another thing...''

Commander O'Briant saw him shaking hand and leaving while looking at the empty streets of a humongous underground town. ''If these people brought them here in the first place...''

But many ifs are not enough to consider. He needed a drink. After all, what he experienced so far, this is something he must do. At least one drink... He took out a shiny card with his name and signed. ''I wonder how many points do I have?''

Suddenly a number could be seen on the card. ''Oh, that is how it works. But why is it so little?''

Suddenly a small ball floated in front of him. ''Because you are paid daily. As life these days are not measured by years than by days, you get paid daily. If you spend it right away is your own fault. You can just stay home and save it for a new home.''

He shook his head. ''Today I will spend it, from tomorrow on I plan to start training again. I assume your mother has some plans for us?''

The child chuckled. ''Of course. There are no lazy people in this country. You will start training again and as soon the weather clears a little bit you and your people will go out and clear as many zombies as possible in surroundings. There are still many after walkers left. The main wave might be somewhere else, but there is always some that stay behind everywhere. It's going to be easier to kill them.''

He nodded as he walked towards the nearest car. ''Good. Soldier job is to do that. Lets clear the enemies as many as we can.''

'' Yes. We will need to find a way to kill the main raid as well, soon you will hear it from General. Have fun.'' the little ball floated away and disappeared between buildings while he turned his electro car on.

''The world has changed indeed. It's maybe better. What we did to our world...''

Emma sat on a huge table and stared at the people in front of her. ''All of you are important members of this society. I hope you are not angry that I made the same-salary rule.''

Actually everyone was surprised and didn't mind. So they all just smiled at her.

But next moment her face became serious. ''I fear that this situation might become quite bad. I saw many storm fronts appearing over the ocean. I already warned all the sanctuaries about possible trouble. Luckily they all have enough supplies. I got a message from the Government and they ORDERED me to release their people.''

A huge smile spread on her face as she continued. ''I said I will. We will bring them to the borders of our country and they can take them over after that. It seems they didn't know what to say on that and told us we must take care of them as they are humans as well.''

Mario chuckled. ''Traitors and spies in most countries are given the death penalty. But they want us to keep them?''

Oliver pressed his lips and sighed. ''If there is a chance we can send them to the nearby sanctuary and leave them there. I think it is not good to keep them inside our place too long.''

Emma shook her head and gave an order. ''Computer, show the map.''

Suddenly a map of the underground city could be seen and something no one expected, a road to somewhere. She pointed at the road and smiled brightly. ''I know their idea, but they forgot that every road has two ends. If they plan to come over here to the city they might as well have a big problem. I closed the road on our side with visible laser lights. If they try to go through the mesh only messy parts of meat will be left there. I plan to set the people on the other side of the mesh and send them their way.''

Oliver relaxed as he heard that. ''Then, let's do that.''

Emma smiled at him. ''We are not monsters. If there is another choice we can do it this way. But the way, did you find the couple?''

Oliver scowled and shook his head. ''Strangely they disappeared. I have no idea what is going on. How could they disappear?''

Emma went silent and knocked with her finger on the table in deep thoughts. ''I fear that stairway case is not a simple as I thought at first. Maybe they found a way to the underground city. But here I would have found them. Did they use the tunnel?''

Mario jumped. ''If they did then those people might as well be on their way here...'' But Emma patted his hand and potioned him to sit down.

''I already applied all the lasers and mines inside and huge warning from the other side. If they really try to get in with force the whole tunnel will go down and they won't be able to enter anyways. To me, that tunnel means only trouble, but I will let it be. Who knows, we might need it in future...'' Emma sighed and pointed at another set of maps. ''The tunnel is connected to other tunnels and sanctuaries. Those people might be stupid and have an easy finger on the nuke button, but this idea was not bad. This might save many people in future and we can do trade with them. there is one more thing I need to show you.''

A small pearl of the size of rice grain was standing on the table. Everyone looked at her with curiosity.

''This... is something we found in each zombie body. And it contains a huge amount of energy. But it's hard to extract. The new zombies can continue going on as long the head is partially there. It inside their brain and it is hard to find as its usually mixed with all the matter and bones.''

She took tweezers and put it inside a new weapon they just invented. Suddenly weapon showed full charge and they were amazed by it. ''What is this?''

''It's laser weapon that is lighter than old ones and does not need to be researched for a long, long time. These thingies have an amazing amount of energy. And I think it will be a new kind of currency to have these. So trade between cities is not wrong. But with this many other things will change. If we can make these, I fear others will get similar ideas as well. We need to be ready. After a zombie apocalypse, there will be something worse, a war. And is just starting...''
