"It's an old person being robbed." After listening intently, the voice suddenly amplified many times, making Maverick easily hear the content.
In the next instant, Venom swiftly enveloped Maverick's body, transforming into its normal human-sized form, the Stealth Suit. He wanted to help this poor old person.
In the nearby alley, a young thug wearing a baseball cap was holding a gun, forcing an elderly lady with gray hair to hand over her wallet and valuables.
The old lady was frightened by the gun and dared not move recklessly, but still pleaded with the thug, "Please, I don't have much money. I've spent it all on medicine. My husband is very sick."
"Please spare me," she tightly clutched her bulging handbag, trembling all over.
"Hurry up! Damn old lady, if you don't want a hole in your head, give me the bag!" The thug with the baseball cap looked ferociously at the old lady, who was frantically fumbling with her bag, and eventually impatiently snatched it away.
*Crash!*
The thug's actions were too forceful, scattering everything from the old lady's bag onto the ground. As expected, it was all medicine, just boxes after boxes.
"You slowpoke!" The thug cursed while kicking away the medicine and preparing to leave with the bag, completely ignoring the old lady's desperate pleas.
He was feeling quite unhappy at the moment because he hadn't gained much from this robbery; this old lady was broke.
The old lady didn't dare to stop the thug as he prepared to leave, so she could only squat down slowly and pick up the scattered medicine one by one. At least these medicines were still intact.
Compared to the money in the bag, these medicines were more important because her husband needed them, and she didn't have the money to buy them again now, even if she added up what was left in the bag.
Just as the thug was grumbling about the old lady being poor and leaving the alley, suddenly a dark figure appeared and kicked him into the nearby trash pile.
The bag he was holding also flew out with the motion, then was steadily caught by a hand extended by Maverick.
"Ma'am, here's your bag," Maverick said in a flat and hoarse voice, then handed the bag to the old lady who had just finished picking up the medicine and stood up.
Although Maverick's appearance looked strange, the old lady wasn't very afraid of him, after all, he had just helped her retrieve her bag.
"Thank you, thank you," the old lady thanked Maverick repeatedly while stuffing the medicine back into her bag.
Facing the old lady's gratitude, Maverick's voice remained flat as he said, "Don't mention it. Hurry home now, it's not safe here. Don't come through here again, especially at night."
The old lady nodded in fear at Maverick's words, then blessed him gratefully, "Thank you, thank you. May God bless you."
After saying that, she hurriedly left the alley with her bag and medicine. Having experienced this incident, she decided to take a taxi when she went out later. Although the fare added some pressure, it was better than being robbed again. After all, if it happened again, she couldn't be sure she'd be lucky enough to escape again.
Maverick watched the old lady get into the car from the alley, silently lamenting, "Damn it, misfortune always seems to find these already unhappy people in succession."
If he hadn't passed by here today, the old lady's life would have been even more miserable.
Meanwhile, the thug who had been kicked into the trash can had recovered. He ran towards the other end of the alley, shouting threats back at Maverick, "Damn it! Don't you dare leave! You despicable bastard! I'll come back and settle the score with you!"
Clearly feeling from the kick earlier that Maverick wasn't someone he could handle alone, he was already somewhat timid and cautious. Plus, with Spider-Man around, he didn't dare to confront this masked weirdo alone.
So, he decided to go call for backup first, then come back to deal with this masked weirdo who dared to ruin his plans. One person with a gun might not be able to completely handle this guy, but he wasn't afraid with a group of people and several guns.
"What a coward," Venom said disdainfully, watching the thug disappear.
"He's just about to call for backup. Dealing with them together should improve the security in this area," Maverick said.
"I'm about to eat some bullets again. That stuff is really not great. It felt kind of novel at first, but now that I've had it too many times, it doesn't feel so good," Venom said, grimacing at the thought of the possible encounters later.
Having eaten too much gourmet food recently, it had lost interest in things like bullets and gunpowder, which it initially found somewhat exotic.
Hearing Venom's words, Maverick sighed, "I don't like causing such a commotion either, but there's no choice. Guns are everywhere here; almost everyone has one. Situations like this are inevitable."
"But I probably won't have to eat bullets later. I'll just use them to practice a bit. With my skills now, they probably won't even touch me," he added confidently.
As they chatted, the thug with the baseball cap who had just left returned to the alley with five or six people.
"This masked guy ruined my plans," the presence of these people clearly emboldened the thug with the baseball cap, who held a gun in one hand and glared fiercely at Maverick.
"Hey! Do you know this is our turf!" a bald brute standing next to the thug with the baseball cap growled menacingly. "Do you think putting on a mask makes you Spider-Man? What a joke!"
Maverick remained unfazed by their tough talk, but Venom shouted indignantly, "He thinks we're still no match for that poor Peter Parker. This baldy asking for it!"
Seeing Maverick's lack of response, the thugs stopped wasting time and began shooting at him.
*Bang! Bang! Bang!* Several flashes of light flickered in the dim alley as bullets shot out from the muzzle, heading towards Maverick.
With extraordinary reflexes, Maverick reacted even faster than the bullets. He swiftly dodged all the bullets with a few moves, then closed in on the thugs, using their bodies as punching bags to experiment with his fighting skills.
Amidst cries of pain and occasional gunshots, the thugs soon lay on the ground.
Though Maverick didn't employ particularly brutal methods today, he didn't hold back either. They were either dead or close to it.
Maverick wasn't like Spider-Man, who would hold back even if these people were trying to kill him. That wasn't his style. Today, these people just happened to run into him, and it was their bad luck.
After dealing with them, Maverick drove home, his mind filled with thoughts.
Ever since gaining this extraordinary power, his life had ceased to be ordinary.
Although he wouldn't roam the city every day like Spider-Man, meddling in every little thing, when he encountered situations like this on the road, he couldn't just stand by.
There might be many troubles ahead, but it didn't matter. Just as Venom said, their union was like fate's arrangement. As long as they were strong enough, no one can stand in their way.
