"Why is it so dark?" Reqiel had to ask, even if it was night in the woods, the darkness felt strange. It felt like a cloak, covering everything.

"Dark essence," Andras said bluntly before Rolfe could.

Reqiel turned to him then with a frightened look in his eyes, "That's not good," He said in a panic, "We need to leave right now…"

Reqiel stilled when Andras' hand unerringly found his face in the darkness, dark blue eyes wide.

"Angels can adapt to dark essence," Andras explained slowly, he slowed down, Rolfe ahead of them. "It's why we're not all choking," He tried to give the simplest explanation he could, his palm cool against Reqiel's heated cheek.
