Ethrond sat stiffly, gold-tinted wings out. He was sat at the gold table where High-Council meetings were held but this wasn't a High-Council meeting, there were only Archangels at the table and they all sat in a stony silence.

He couldn't remember the last time King Rinon had a private meeting with just the Archangels. There were certain situations and events that required them to be in the same hall but nothing of this manner.

Archangels had their duties and over the decades their duties split from being under King Rinon's direct control. They still reported back to him religiously but he more or less gave them free reign over their jurisdiction, which was superficial at best. All they had to do was put on a front to the rest of the Realm that those in secret were hard at work, regardless of how full of air their actual duties were.
