The Alpha of Dragons

The Dorack men are brutes who come from a long line of shapeshifters. They can no longer shift and have all but lost the instincts to mate. The men are presented with human wives in hopes of breeding. But DaThoren, the brute prince of Dorack, discovers the scent of not his new human bride but the slave girl covered in dirt at her feet. She is nothing more than a dog at their feet, but she seems to pull something from DaThoren, and soon he sinks more than just his fangs into her. "Do you think to trick me into breeding you, Pet?" Only one problem, shapeshifters can't pair mate with a human. Thus begins her story, for she was never just a dog, and she is far from being human. Only a dragon can carry the seed of another dragon.

Back and Forth

"Perhaps she's a half-breed" Zim speaks, shaking me out of my thoughts. "A mutt?" Suddenly I feel like a dog again and I want to roll in the mud. My eyes dart to the tent door.

"Enough," DaThoren speaks "She is not a dog."

"She not fully human either," Roland snaps,

"Little one," Kaggun speaks softly "You once told us that your father mated your mother,"

I look at him, how was that just not realized? My mouth opens, "He, marked my mother."

"Seraphin, that means your parents were shapeshifters," Kaggun adds. I look down "I, I don't remember," I look at Roland "Maybe I am a mutt, but I didn't bring myself here, I didn't trick him, he chose me," I look at my mate "Right? You chose me?"

"You didn't trick me woman I am not a fool," DaThoren states. That doesn't make me feel any better, I look down.

"Did I not just tell you that I loved you?" My mate says making me snap my head back up to him, he said it out loud for them to hear.

"There was a force, I smelt you before I saw you and at first I was angry, but you were small and weak and yet beautiful and raw." He smiles "The you covered yourself in the mud,"

"So that's what made you fall head over heels for her, mud?" Zim asks in a flat tone.

"Shut it!" DaThoren snaps, he walks to me, and puts his hand on my belly, "I would not care if you were human, or a dog, it doesn't matter what you are because, in the end, you are mine." There is possessiveness in his tone.

"You should care," Roland speaks again, still bowed up, "She is pregnant,"

We both look at him,

"DaThoren, the baby," I hear myself speak as fear of the unknown runs through my head.

"Will be a half-breed then," My mate states heated. It is apparent his brothers dont quite feel the same way he does.

"We need to move out and speak to grandfather, if she were human then the baby would be a half-breed but we don't know what she is. If she is a halfbreed herself we need to know what kind." Roland drops his arms and puts one hand on his hip.

"Does that really matter?" I ask.

Roland looks at me again, "Can a goat and a horse have a baby?" He asks and suddenly I feel sick. "He is a wolf, we need to know what you are so we know what that is," He points to my belly. "If it's safe for you to carry."

My hands go to my belly, to my unborn baby, our baby that we made together. "The hard truth is that it could be nothing, or it could be something or it could be disfigured," Roland keeps talking then sighs and runs his free hand through his hair, "Your safety as our sister does come first," He drops his hand and rubs his chin, "Forgive me," He says softy.

I don't know what to say.

"Pet?" Kaggun speaks again and I look at him because I can't look at Roland anymore. "Yes?"

My mate growls slightly, a sign he does not like Kaggun calling his pet name, and the look he is giving me tells me that he does not like the fact that I answered it.

"Do you not recall what your father was?" Kaggun asked,

I shake my head no.

"Do you recall anything about your mother?" He asks,

I bit my lip. "The only thing I can recall is that her mark was on her wrist and-" I close my eyes "It scabbed or scaled over." I can hardly see it. I dont even recall their voices and their faces are blurry in my mind. When I open my eyes no one is looking at me but at each other. "We need to go, now," Roland is the one who speaks but his face is clearly in shock. It was clear I was a half-breed of some sort, but not from a human. I didn't have human blood in me. I wasn't complete trash and I wonder just how my old master ended up with me.

But one thing is for sure, I can't shift.

We can't leave tonight, no matter how badly they want to leave. The Red Wolf female is a shapeshifter and there is no breaking them apart right now to move on plus it's raining. I sit down back in the middle of the tent and watched as Roland paces back and forth. He hates me I think.

DaThoren sighs, "Roland if you want to get a head start go."

Thunder rolls and Roland stops. "I can't leave the pack and you know it,"

"Then sit," My mate snaps at him.

"I am not a dog," He sneers and I swear his eyes glide to me for a second.

"Rest everyone, we will leave at first light, rain or no rain," My mate commands. One by one they settle and my mate joins me in the middle, "Go to sleep," He says quietly. I lay down and he spoons me, throwing one protective arm around me. But I can't sleep. I'm worried about so many things. My life is changing so fast. "Maybe we should ask one of the daughters of Nim, "I say suddenly. I almost forgot there were still six of them. "Ask them what Pet?"

"About me," I turn to face him and his hand slides to the small of my back, "Their father found me, er took me in, or something."

"Maybe they know something," He speaks pressing me closer to him.

"Maybe," I look at his chest as it rises and falls, "I'm afraid," I hate to admit it, I really do. "Of what?" I run my hand to my belly, "What if something is wrong, what if what I am doesn't mix with what you are."

"Enough," He says and I can hear the anger in his voice.

"Can a mated pair be unmated?"

He grabs my jaw and makes me look at him, "Death." Was all he gave me but his eyes pierced mine through the dark. "I'm not afraid to die" I whisper but the thought of being apart from him makes me sad. He growls at me and then he is over me glaring down at me holding himself up only by his forearms.

"Enough both of you, go to sleep." We hear Kaggun's voice. He may not be the leader anymore but you can't take it out of him. DaThoren glares at me a moment more before laying back next to me. He turns me away from him and rests his hand on my belly. It's going to break my heart if we can't have this baby. Being a mother is not something I ever thought about. Hell, mating is something I had never thought about. I thought I'd live and die a dog.
