Damon was very excited knowing his mate was finally opening to him.

He can't wait to tell the world he's found his Luna and Queen.

He had secretly arranged guards around Mona, unknowing to her who followed her everywhere she went and they in turn reported back to him.

Now that he has marked her, every werewolf will know she's his. He knew some ill intentioned Alphas might want to harm his mate.

He knew they would know sooner or later and he never have any intention of hiding his mate from his kind forever.

He is their king and as such they would accept his mate despite the fact that she's human.

He has been thinking of a good to tell his mate who he really was and not just a king.

He wasn't scared of being rejected anymore for believed his mate wasn't someone who would runaway from his kind, he has seen her to be a brave woman. The moon goddess won't send him a weak Luna, he definitely knew that.
