Chapter 35: The Deal

Grant’s perspective:

Gazing sternly into the thatch ceiling, listening to Emily’s soft breathing as she sleeps away the exhaustion of our silent romp, my thoughts drift back to the crash, the sabotage. Who could it be? Is the answer right in front of me? Was it one of my own? I don’t want to believe it. And what their plans are now, I can’t grasp. I have to get back to my pack.

As my mind drifts, my eyes grow heavy. Until I finally let sleep take over.

A red flow, something like a thick liquid oozing down a window, encumbers my sight. I rub my forearm across my eyes and try to blink past it, only smudging the substance.

Austin’s voice resounds from somewhere beyond my sight. “Bram! Bram! Don’t play. This isn’t time to play, man. What the f*ck, dude?”

Outside of my will, I keep low and quiet, fleeing Austin’s calling.

“Come on. Where’d you go? Grant’s not gonna think this is funny. Bram!”
