A Grave Error

Viktor's Point of View

Aláine growled and moved around the bed toward me. She was wobbly on her legs. I was not surprised as she had never been a Lycan or wolf before, which was different from walking as a human.

"You are not my mate!" she shrieked again. "Tonight, you die!"

She continued walking toward me, still unsteadily, but there was no mistaking her intent. It was all going wrong. What had I done?

It suddenly hit me. My wolf was right; I have made a grave error. Aláine was not a standard size or colour for a werewolf. She was a royal. How a human became royalty was beyond me. When she and Kristof mated, the mating process must have done something to her. Whatever it was, I doubted I could change who she was mated to.

Now to top it off, Aláine was not merely angry; she was enraged. As unsteady on her legs as she was, she was still advancing toward me. I had no doubt that if she caught me, she would attempt to kill me.
