The Aeternus Universe

The year of humanity is 2415, and DDVR and VRMMORPG's are commonplace now. It's extremely hard for a new game to come out and be successful. The greats of these genres have ruled for a few centuries now. A new game is releasing soon, and it has promise to be one of those. The Aeternus Universe. A Virtual Reality game has what you would expect from a game in this genre. However, some things make it special. One of those being the exploration and adventure through galaxies and The Aeternus Universe. Other games in this genre take it to fantasy and medieval times. This is set in a universe where there are super advanced technologies, spaceships, and Mecha suits—lost Alien tech ready to be found and claimed. Some of these all come together. The story starts 2 days before the release of the game, and with our protagonist—a 20-year-old male by the name of Scott Autumn. He is one of the few jumping from the current major game to this one. Seeing its potential for greatness and chance to be one of the biggest games on the market.

I turn off the TV since the programs are super boring now. Nothing good when it comes to the news and all the problems regarding alien people are gone, thanks to my program. I hear footsteps from behind me, and I turn the see Jess in her pajamas. She looks well-rested, which is good. She sits on the couch with me and turns the TV on. I groan ever so slightly. I just turned it off. She brings her feet up and rests them on my lap. We used to do this when we were kids.

I place my hands on her shins and watch whatever she is watching. It's a drama show about men going crazy for a guy—the Bachelor. While the idea is good, the result is not. Created in the early 21st century and beloved by drama lovers everywhere. There is an opposite to this shoe called the Bachelorette. I've never watched either show. I know about them from my memories of Jess talking about them all the time in high school.

She wiggles her legs a little and rubs her toes together. She still paints her toenails, it seems. Hot pink seems to be her favorite. "I checked out the game. I got to say I really like it. They have come really far since I stopped all those years ago." She sounds like she is in her 40's when she puts it like that. We are growing up in the tech and VR golden age. We are going to like them regardless. They have become very important in the daily lives of people.

She nudges me with her foot to look at her and answer. "I'm glad that you like it. If you take the right steps, you can make money from it just like I have." She scoffs and lays her head on the edge of the couch. Her blond hair hanging off the edge. "So have you had any problems with that one asshat. I can take care of him if you need me to. She raises her head and looks sad. She has had a hard time with boys in the past. It's hard out there. That's what I have determined, at least.

She leans up and scoots over to my side and leans her head on my shoulder, and gets in a comfortable position. "I don't think I'm going to be dating anyone for a while. I thought I might be able to find a nice guy, someone like you." I chuckle. I appreciate her kind words. However, there is no such thing as a perfect man. I'd never abuse a woman, but I lack the emotional capacity to be anything more than a friend. I could only see myself with a woman who is very low maintenance.

One that doesn't demand much from me emotionally. "You could always try online dating. You sound like your ready for it." She raises her hand and pinches my cheek. I guess she is too young to try any of that yet. Only desperate people go on those sites, ones that can't find the right person in real life. She sighs and relaxes again. We sit in silence as we watch the TV. A scene comes on of the Bachelor and a contestant making out.

I feel Jess shuffle in awkwardness. I'll admit they are really going after it. "Have you ever kissed someone like that..." My sister asks me a strange question out of nowhere. The closes I've ever gotten to that were kisses on the cheek. I've never had such an experience before. It seems like a complex thing that can be ruined by the slightest mistake. My mind races, solving problems and figuring out solutions to how to kiss. I learn so many things instantly from watching.

I shake my head and continue to watch as the girl is starting to get handsy. "Do you want to try that type of stuff..." I don't know if it were with someone I know and trust maybe. It isn't something I'm experienced with. I have the knowledge now, but I don't have the actual actions down. "I can help you practice for the day you meet that girl if you want..." I blink a couple of times in confusion at the TV and I turn to see the calm expression of my sister looking at me with the same blue eyes I have.
