Project Maverick

With danger imminent Max made the choice of asking his parents about what they know even though he had big exams coming up. He knew the risk and what would happen but did it anyway. He sat with his parents in the living room in the afternoon the next day.

"So why did you ask us to hold a meeting?" his mom asked.

"Does this have anything to do with school? Or some huge news about someone you wish to tell us about?" his father questioned.

"I know what you're thinking and no it is none of those" Max answered dispelling their thoughts.

He took a deep breath before speaking.

"Mom, dad, I wanna ask, who are my real parents, do I have any siblings or relatives at all?" he asked.

His parents had a look of shock on their faces not expecting him to ask such a question but they guessed the boy deserved to know.

"Well son, it's about time you knew the truth" Bill said.

"For starters, we never got you from an orphanage" Elizabeth said.

His eyes widened upon hearing that.

"In fact, you arrived on our doorstep in a box. You were sent here for safe keeping from only God knows what" his father added.

"Is that all? That can't be all, who brought me to you? What are my meant to be hidden from?" Max questioned curious to find out who he really was.

"Son, the only instructions we were given were to keep you safe" Bill said.

"But if you insist on finding out more there is one person that could give you the answers you desire" his mom said. "Alex Corsenik"

"Alex Corsenik? Sounds like I've heard that name before" Max said.

"He is actually your mother's first cousin. He was the one that charged us with keeping you safe and told us to cut off communicating with him not to raise any suspicions" his father added.

"Hmmmmm" Max hummed.

"What's the matter?" his mom asked.

"Well, if I wanted to find him, where would I go?" Max asked.

"Not like you can go there right now but, he lives in Washington D.C and I think" Elizabeth said racking her brain for that information.

"Thanks mom" Max said holding his blue jean jacket in hand to go with his red T-shirt, brown pants and black and white shoes.

"Where are you going?" His father asked but Max was already out of the house.

Lizzy held the hand of her husband worried for Max.

"You think he's going to be okay?" she asked with a worried tone.

"He will, he's a strong boy and not to mention, he's a Taker. we can take on anything"

Max walked deep into the forest to get away from anyone who might see what he was about to do. He wore his jacket and then looked up to the sky, he scanned around to make sure no one was looking before he shot into the sky. He was heading to D.C to find this Alex Corsenik armed with only the GPS on his phone for directions. He didn't even bother to tell Jessica or Ramon where he was going judging that he needed to do this alone.

An hour after Max left, Bill and Elizabeth were having lunch on the dining table when their doorbell rang.

"That's strange, did you invite anyone?" she asked Bill.

"No and if Max was bringing his friends over or they were coming on their own, they would call first" Bill said.

"I don't know but this feels weird, anyone who would want to come over usually calls of first cuz of how busy we are" Lizzy added.

"Well let me go check it out" Bill said getting up from his seat.

He walked straight to the door not bothering to check who it was and opened the door to see a blonde boy standing on their front deck dressed in a sleeveless black shirt, beige colored shorts and flip flops with his back facing the front door.

"Yes, can I help you?" Bill asked.

The boy turned staring right into his eyes with his red eyes. Bill looked confused as the boy looked exactly like Max.

"I'm a friend of your boy, mind if I come in?" he said as Bill looked frightened.

"Who's at the door?" Lizzy asked walking towards the door seeing her husband speechless.

She looked at the figure that stood at the door and gasped.

After a couple ours of flying at his top speed, Max finally arrived Alex's house after googling it online. He also found out that he was dead and the owner of a multi billion dollar company known as MilTech which his son Dave Corsenik, was now spear heading.

"If anyone had answers, I'm sure to meet them here" he said taking a deep breath before ringing the door bell of the mansion.

Within thirty seconds, a maid answered the door sporting the standard black and white attire with Latino looks. She wore a name tag on her chest that read Maria.

"Yes, what can I do for you?" she said with a warming tone.

"I came to see Dave if he's not busy" He answered with a bit of nervousness in his voice.

It had been a while he sounded nervous as he was used to be the confident Maverick people looked up to.

"Are you one of his friends?" she asked.

"No" he answered with a bead of sweat running down his back.

"Then you have an appointment?" she questioned.

"No, just tell him I'm a relative of his" he said.

She nodded and walked back inside, after a couple minutes, she came back out.

"You can come in sir" she said bowing.

"Don't call me sir, Max will do" he said.

"Okay Max"

She led him through the tech inspired modern mansion with water running down acting as doors that go off on their own to the A.I that ran the house and controlled all the appliances as the house was cleaning itself. To crown it all, the color of the walls changed depending on your mood with the walls changing from blue to grey then a multiple series of colors trying to read Max's mood but it settled on grey.

"Sit here sir, Dave will be with you shortly" she said pointing to a sofa.

"What would you like to drink sir?" a voice asked.

Max was startled as he jerked back and scanned around for the person that said that.

"No need to be alarmed sir, it's just the coffee table"

Max looked down to see the coffee table bringing out a list of available drinks that they had to offer.

"Oh" he said relieved. "I'll have a bottle of soda" he said.

"Okay sir, any particular brand?" the table asked.

"I'm not picky, you choose what you think is best for me" he said.

"Alright" the A.I answered as the catalogue of drinks disappeared.

As Max sat down and looked around, he heard footsteps coming his way and turned his head to the left. Two white shoes walked down then followed by brown trousers then a blue sweater with black horizontal strips covering a white shirt underneath with the collar sticking out from the neck.

"So, which one of my aunts or uncles did you come from?" the boy said.

He had blonde hair and bright blue eyes and wore a charming smile, both arms were in his pockets as he looked down on Max. He looked around his age though with a slimmer physique.

"I'm Bill and Elizabeth's son" Max answered.

"Bill and Elizabeth, Bill and Elizabeth..." the boy repeated as he thought deeply.

"Wait a minute, Bill and Elizabeth Taker?!" he said with a bit of excitement.

"Yes that Bill and Elizabeth" he said.

"Great to meet you cuz, I'm Dave" he said walking up to him and stretching out his arm.

"I'm Max" he answered standing up and shaking his hand.

"What happened to you guys, you just cut everyone off and we haven't heard from anyone in years. How are you all doing? Where do you live? How did you get here?" he questioned as they both took a seat.

"Well we're doing fine" Max answered.

"So what made you drop by after all this time, did aunt Lizzy and uncle Bill come with you?" he asked.

"No I left them in California"

"Wow so far away." Dave said. "So what brings you to my humble abode?"

Just then a robot stool rolled in on four wheels holding up Max's soda, he carried it and thanked the house as the stool rolled away.

"Well something happened recently and I wanted to find some answers" Max said.

"Okay" Dave said unsure of what he might ask.

"About fourteen years ago your dad dropped sent a box to my parents house and in that box, there was a boy. Know anything about it?" Max asked.

Dave looked at him staring him straight in the eye as if he was trying to read him.

"Follow me" he said.

Dave led Max to his father's study upstairs then locked the door behind them. Max looked at the towering bookshelves and walls decorated with pictures of Dave and all the awards he had accumulated over the years.

"Wow, so many books and awards" Max commented.

"It's all thanks to my dad that I accomplished all that" Dave said leading Max to his fathers desk in the middle of the room surrounded by bookshelves.

Dave and Max stood next to the desk as Dave sat on the chair behind the desk then pushed some buttons below the desk as they made a beep sound. When he was down, the top of the desk split in two and each half stood up vertically with Max intrigued by it as a shelf of files rose up from the open desk.

"That's pretty neat" Max said.

"My father took extra precaution in hiding all his secrets and I am the only person with access to them" Dave said.

Dave stood up and ran through the files in the box until he finally found what he was looking for.

"Aha, there it is" he said pulling out a file then handing it over to Max.

The cover of the file read project Maverick.
