EP 28- HELP FROM A gOd

Conrad looked up at the stars . Tomorrow would make it the third day.He was so hungry and tired he has not slept for two-days.

He wondered if they had found the answer by now.

He took out his locket and opened it. It contained the picture of a girl, her face full of radiance and joy. He smiled as he thought back into the past when they had been together He had once lost this and that little accident ...

Brought to him one of his best friends.

Now he needs his friends to come through for him he has to trust them and hope.Right now hope is all he is hanging on to.

She smiled to herself as she examined the locket.

A good steal, she said to herself. She opened it and studied the picture carefully.

At that moment , she felt the muzzle of a gun against the the nape of her neck. "Hand it over." A grim voice said.

She turned around and saw his outstretched hand. She placed the locket in it as he shuffled it back into his pocket.

"Next time remember to keep a closer eye on your belongings ". The lady said sarcastically,

"I'll keep that in mind." The other individual holstered his gun.

'How did you find me ?" She had to ask.

He smiled. "You kind of have a reputation around here and ...if you don't mind me asking... What's your name?"

The lady felt slightly shocked no one has ever asked her her name. Her alias were more revolting and inductive, one of their personal favourites was "Monster."

She sucked in her lower lip then replied." Its Kyra. What's yours?"

He took off his hat to reveal his fluffy brown hair that fell around his eyes

"Conrad."

He extended his hand as Kyra raised an eyebrow and then shook it.

"Nice to meet you."

"What was all that about ". Avyanna stood to face Levi . Did you want to get us smite... smote ...smitten...Whatever, you get my point".

Levi looked at Avyanna ." Mind your business. Its nothing."

Avyanna knew when not to push him.

After a while searching , they finally stood face to face with the god of wisdom.

The immortal deity who knew all that needed to be known.Who knew all the answers to a question before its had even been asked.

He sat in a lotus like pose. Although he wasn't speaking to them , he presence still felt transcendent.

The air was ominous as no one spoke for a while.

"I know what you have came here for" . The supernatural being spoke.

"Oh really".Levi said.

"You need to save your friend from the grip of death. He is in the grasps of the sphinx, is he not?"

"We didn't come here to marvel at your wisdom , we came for an solution to a problem. So stop the almighty display so we can be on our merry way. Levi said calmly.

"You have not still changed after all your time on this earth. " He said solemly as if pitiful at Levi's state. "You still carry this bitterness and ego for more than a millennium."

Levi felt as in his heart as he thought back but immediately brushed it aside.

The great Sage turned to the two ladies. "I cannot help you. Your friend know too well that we gods don't thrive with humans nor take part in their affairs. And even if I want to help , it would be considered by other gods as cheating."

"So that was a big pile of nothing." Avyanna began to walk away.

Kyra fell on her knees with her face bowed to the ground. "Spirit of destiny, wisdom and Knowledge. I beg of you aid us with this."

The Sage smiled " You have such strong love for your friend. You are indebted to him and you feel obligated to help him but your determination is astonishing. I am indeed moved ...BUT as I said I can't help you, but that doesn't mean you can save your friend . The answer lies among you if only you are ready to pay the sacrifice.

"WHAT is with gods and their sacrifice." Avyanna grumbled. "I hope it isn't virgin's blood cos I ain't a candidate " She thought.

" We are willing to pay any price just to save him ". Avyanna answered

"BE careful with words young lady. You might not know what you utter in desperate times.".

" We didn't come for counselling . Just tell us what to do ." Levi crossed his arms , looking bored ".

He sent down a blade to Kyra and spoke.

"ONE of you will have to shave a head. After doing this you will all proceed to have a bath in a river just behind those leaves. " He pointed in a direction. "That is when we can start talking of the saving your friend.

The Great Sage disappeared as the three discussed who was to carry out that drastic act. Kyra held the blade.

Avyanna handed it to Levi but he refused it.

"Look doll, I've lived for more than a millennium years . And I have always had two major rules to keep. Keep this hair silky and remaining this handsome..So if Conrad waiting for me to get a hair cut, He's going to wait a long time."

Avyanna rolled her eyes.

"Avyanna why don't you do it?" Kyra inquired.

"Woah, Slow down! This is my hair in talking about. I love Conrad and all but you can't grow back all this hair. It accompanies my winning smile.And by the way he DIDN'T specify that we should shave off all of our hair." Avyanna defended herself.

Kyra seized the blade and began to chop off her hair.Avyanna held her hand.

"Calm down, honey, Kyra, sweetie. You know this is a huge step and there's no going back. Do you really want to do this?!!!!!"

"He is our friend . I want to do this just like Conrad will for us . Are you even thinking of what he Is going through right now? How afraid or sacred he is?! . I gave him my word and its going to count for something. He is counting on us.".

"Nice speech, but am not still shaving my hair ". Levi cut in.

"There has to be another way right ? what about cutting some of it". Avyanna tried to suggest in a more persuasive manner.

"THERE is no other way Avyanna this is the only way and am doing it for my friend.

Kyra took the sharp blade once again held her hair and close her eyes and started shaving of her hair admist wondering stares from her companions .

Batches of hair fell piece after piece to the ground.

She finally shaved off all her hair. She looked at the heap of hair on the ground.

But it was going to be worth it.

Kyra presented it to the god ."I have done what you have asked.So help us!" she yelled.

"Not quite yet. All of you have to have a bath in a river , remember?

Kyra and Avyanna headed towards the hidden leaves while Levi stayed behind.

The Great Sage Opened his eyes. "You are not joining them?"

"I don't feel like getting wet." He bit back nastily.

" You have hardened in your past time on this earth. Is it because of what took place in the Imperial Skies? You know it wasn't his fault that Nirvana ..."

"I don't care what was and wasn't his fault. She's dead because of him.He cast me out and I intend of paying my debt in full." He replied with menace.

Kyra and Avyanna returned dripping wet. They stood before the Great Sage, "What is the answer to the riddle!" Avyanna yelled.

The Great Sage Shook his head as he slowly withered into a puff of white smoke. "I thought by now you would have gotten the answer yourself." And finally disappeared.

"Does that mean Kyra lost her hair for nothing!!!!" Su ling screamed pulling her own hair.

"Casualties of war, dear" Eva consoled her as she also snickered at her plight.

Levi looked at Kyra on the ground bemoaning her hairless fate, when he was struck by something. Although Kyra was dripping wet yet her hair wasn't..... .It had just confirmed the theory he had been thinking about all this while.

The three walked away while Kyra moved heavily, disillusioned as well as disappointed. The sun had already set and this was the last day. Seemed Conrad was lost to them forever. Kyra struggled to hold back tears. She felt someone's arm around her.She looked up and saw Levi smiling at her. "Don't worry , we still have a few hours yet. If we can't solve the riddle , we'll take it down ourselves to get him back." Kyra snifled and wiped her eyes and began to blush at being the subject of his attention.

They finally got back to where the Sphinx had been waiting for them.

"Have you found your answer?"

Levi grinned and walked forward.
