Chapter 21: Mismatched

[Vereena]

It was a horrendous night. I was just sitting on the bed, sulking that I was back in that place, and then the ship suddenly turned sideways, tossing me into the air. I was slammed all about the corners along with the heavy chest rolling and churning as the ship rocked even more violently. I didn't know what was happening at first, but when I looked outside the window, I saw the sky turned black, lightning striking the angry ocean, and the waves grew larger and larger into mountains.

At that moment, palpable terror spread throughout my entire body, and I immediately began to panic, pounding on the door in the vain hope that someone would hear me and help me escape the room. However, no one had paid attention. I curled right underneath the bed, holding the pole for dear life as the ship tumbled and turned. I thought I was safe there, for I kept still, but then something hit the window, so hard that the glass broke, and a torrent of water filled the quarters.
