The Abandoned Elivette Hirsch

"Zequiel, isn't what you're doing too far? You have murdered innocent people!" The Queen exclaimed as she saw the bloodied corpses of the Palace's knights. "By giving them a quick and painless death, I've already shown them mercy. Elivette has been through a lot, and taking their lives wouldn't be enough to make up for it." "Zequiel, no life is more valuable than the other. They were merely ordered! And Elivette is still alive—" The Queen was interrupted by a chilly gust of wind before she could finish her sentence. The sword that Zequiel used to take those knights' lives is now aimed at her neck. "Don't go there Your Majesty," Zequiel warned, "The person you're referring to didn't hesitate to save those commoners lives. She is beyond comparison to your incompetent knights." "Zequiel, what is going on?" The King appeared out of nowhere, causing Zequiel to put his weapon away. "I'm taking Eli with me." "You can't do that! Her identity is still unknown! This isn't something you can decide on your own." The Queen stated as her eyes asked help from the King. The King sighed, "Celaestis, just let him." Zequiel was about to leave but then he turned back to look at his brother, "If I ever found out that it was really you who ordered to hurt her, Mark my words, I'll do the same thing to your woman." ----- Eli's goal in life is to finish college, earn enough money, and have a life of her own. Not until she woke up one day, in a different place, different setting, and in a different body. She transmigrated in a novel, in the body of a cannon fodder. The worst part? She transmigrated in the ending of the novel, where Elivette Hirsch was already removed from the Hirsch genealogy and was abandoned by her own father. Now she has to find jobs to fend for herself. But how will she live in a world that is slowly changing from what she's read?

To find a job

"We couldn't go on like this." I grunted as I stared at the 28 copper coins in my hand.

Penny and I have been working these past 5 days without rest just to earn some coins enough to buy us actual food.

"My Lady." I looked up and received the bowl she handed to me and I couldn't help but sigh when I saw the bowl half-filled with beans, again.

5 days of working non-stop and all I can eat is these freakin' beans? I was only able to buy some grains and ate some porridge twice in these past few days.

Thank goodness we can still live in these cottages without paying any rent or we would have to stay on the streets.

"I saw some poster on the other side of a town that an inn is looking for some cook. Let's try that." I mentioned as I try to stop myself from vomiting the goddamn beans.

It's not actually hard to find jobs that pay well in a town, since I'm knowledgeable in a lot of things and I could use that to my advantage.

I could apply as a cook in those small restaurants or serve as a waitress, wash some clothes or apply in some household as a maid.

The only problem is that no one will hire me.

Why? Simply because of this.

"You're going to apply as a what?"

"A cook." I replied to the woman who was managing the tavern.

I've been trying to apply as a cook in different inns and restaurants because I'm planning to cook some of the modern food I know that wasn't made yet in this time, just like those characters in transmigration novels were they use their modern knowledge to their advantage.

Given my vast knowledge of contemporary culinary styles, it would be foolish of me to abandon this idea.

"We're not hiring."

My brows furrowed, "You are. I just saw a poster stating that you're looking for a cook—"

"We're not hiring you." She stated without any hesitation.

"I know a lot of recipes—"

"Do you even know how to cook Miss?" I raised my eyebrow at her.

Here we are again.

I can't get a freaking job because of the identity that I have.

Even if it was Penny who applied, they still refuse to hire her despite having the skills simply because she is the maid of the 'abandoned' Elivette Hirsch.

"I actually do, why don't you give me a chance and cook some dishes for you?" I offered.

"No, thank you. We don't want our inn to burn down given what happened with the Madden Household." She turned her back and just like that she went back to what she was doing.

I couldn't help but cuss under my breath with what she said.

It was well-known what happened in the Madden Household.

The Madam of the Madden Family took the real Elivette Hirsch as a maid in their Household. She worked their for a week but not long after that she was kicked out together with her maid, because she almost burned down the store room of the Madden Family.

It wasn't actually mentioned in the book regarding the incident but as I occupied Elivette's body I'm starting to recall what happened in every single situation she was in and every memory Elivette had.

The reason was that she went out during the middle of the night to the store room to steal some food, but then this freaking no-brain girl tripped and the candle she was holding almost burned down the room.

Now no one is stupid enough to hire the abandoned Elivette Hirsch who is not just a thief, but also does not know any actual work.

This is why the only work Penny and I can have these past few days is lifting sacks of grains, which only gives us 3 copper coins per sack.

Not only does my body hurt from lifting those sacks but my stomach also from indigestion from the beans.

Gosh, Why do I have to go through all of this?

The kidnapping's planning was not done by me.

I wasn't the one who nearly set the store room on fire.

I wasn't the one that treated people badly and inconsiderately.

Yet I'm the one who suffered all of the consequences to her actions.

It would have been better if I transmigrated in the beginning then I could have changed Elivette's path and enjoy a life of luxury as a daughter of a Marquess.

"My Lady."

I raised my head and I saw Penny walking towards me.

"Are there places that need workers?" I asked. Despite knowing that these people might not hire me because of Elivette's history, I'm still trying my luck.

Maybe someone out there is kind enough to help us, right?

Surely, God wouldn't be so cruel to let us die in the streets.

"How about we just go back and lift some sacks My Lady? I can just do it myself, I know it's been hard for you." She softly explained trying to gauge my reaction to what she said.

"And it hasn't been hard on you?"

"Of course not, Lady Eli. You see I grew up doing all kinds of work! So it isn't hard for me but for you—"

"Don't even finish it. Didn't I tell you that I'm already a commoner? Which means that I'm no different from you. So why is it that you have to do all the work? You and I are equal. We'll work for the both of us, no buts." I solemnly and sincerely stated.

These past few days, I've learned what kind of person Penny is.

She's dependent on Elivette.

I think it's because she grew up taking care of Elivette at a young age, and for her, Elivette is her home. That's why when Elivette was abandoned she did not hesitate to go with her.

I wanna treat her with utmost respect and treat her as a friend or like an older sister but she acts as If I'm still her Lady, which is kinda annoying sometimes.

I occasionally need to speak to her authoritatively in order to get her to listen to me.

I didn't force her to stop calling me Lady because I know damn well that she wouldn't listen to me.

So I just let her call me whatever she wants.
