Chapter 48: Ask It

The kitchen was still pretty disastrous from the party, but I managed to find a clean rag which I wetted as I sat Messene down to tend to her wounded head.

"I still can't believe she managed to sneak up on me," she said with a look of disgust.

I wiped at the blood which had already dried dabbed gently at the wound itself. Luckily, it was barely bleeding now. "Please, don't beat yourself up. She snuck up on me as well."

Messene groaned in pain and frustration. "I was supposed to be looking out for you. Kyros is right to be upset with me."

I shook my head. "He's not upset with you, he's upset with himself. You know that."

She cracked a small smile then winced as I pressed the wet rag to the wound. "I think everyone is a little upset at how tonight's gone."

I laughed heartily. "One of these days, I'll manage to attend a party longer than ten minutes."

She closed her eyes and took a deep inhale. "It's always something, isn't it?"
