31 Chapter 1

( A/N:

During my experience, I found that I burn out frequently when I write a story.

And I have come to realize that the major reason for this was that I tried to force more words from myself to at least have a chapter reach a certain word count.

So starting from now...I will publish every day however the chapters will be as long as I feel I can write without forcing more words out of myself.

With love,

On a night, a person was walking down the street alone. He had his head hung down and seemed half asleep already.

" When will I reach home?"

Not a question that many people would ask since one would be very used to walking back to their homes that many times they don't even remember what happened on the road when they got back.

One moment who are in some place, by the time you come to yourself you find that you are already in front of your home.

But for some reason, this Joseph, an old man, was not experiencing this. He had a secret though...he was a transmigrator!

In his past life, he was just a normal doctor who died and woke up in the 1920s as a kid.

" As my kids grew up I wished what every parent does...to be able to die before our kids but it seems fate didn't have that in plans for me..."

His expressions were filled with pain and unwillingness.

" If only I died earlier...I wouldn't have to go through this..."

He stopped in his movements and suddenly slapped himself.

" At least, I have my granddaughter with me! I must be strong for her! My wife left me because I was going through some financial troubles...I have no one to depend on! She doesn't have her parents now...all she has is me..."

He jumped and jolted his arms and said to himself " Alright! Your grandpa will never let you feel lonely."

Suddenly he felt his phone vibrate. He took it out of his pocket and flipped it open.

It was the year 2000.

There was a picture of him with a man in blue tights.

" Steve..."

Steve was his old friend. A friend that had gone missing for decades.

He was called Captain America.

Steve was a childhood friend of his. He still remembers those days when he and Bucky used to play with him.

Smiling Joseph shook his head.

" What's happened has happened. I hope you rest in peace..."

When he transmigrated he thought that his life would change, he used to read fanfictions in his free time and had read multiple fanfictions that used Steve to become Super Soldier, unfortunately, he could not replicate it and just became another normal soldier.

He was part of the Howling Commandos though.

Since he couldn't become a super-soldier he just stayed out of trouble as that would just kill him.

He dialled a number, it ringed for some time before it was picked up.

" Hellow?"

An immature voice sounded from the other side.

" Gwen...this is grandpa...I am coming to the house soon so keep an eye out for me okay?"

" Umu. I will grandpa..."

Unlike other times she was not cheerful. Hearing the tone of her voice, Joseph was a bit sad.

" You remember the code right?"

" Unh!"

" Good...until I say that code myself do not open the door got it?"

" Okay! Come soon, grandpa."

" I love you...wait for grandpa!"

" Love you too."

With that, he put his phone in his pocket and walked with energy unheard of for a man of his age.

He turned a few corners with speed. After that, he slowed down and muttered " I can't do this for long at this age..."

Cars honked behind him, he waved his hand. He didn't know what these kids driving cars wanted. He was walking on the side of the road.

He sighed and started moving slowly, however when he barely started a car suddenly crashed on him.

It sent him flying.

The moment he was hit he felt the pain that he never did in the entirety of his time. But when he fell he didn't feel anything he couldn't move anything under his hips.

He felt that he could move his arms but didn't. He worked in the army before and had been in life-threatening situations where he had to pretend to be dead.

He wasn't sure about the situation. He didn't know if it was an accident or if it was an attempt to kill him.

Normally he wouldn't even consider the second option but as he was once a friend of Captain America, he knew that someone was targeting those related to him for some reason. Many of his comrades had died already.

He didn't think that the assassin would just leave him like this. They would surely come to check upon him. But he still wanted to cling to that last thread of hope to ensure he would survive.

However, luck wasn't on his side.

The cars moved and encircled him. He heard the roar of a bike. It made its way to him through the gaps between the cars.

It was a man with a metal arm. He had long black hair and wore a mask.

Knowing that he was not going to survive, Joseph clenched his fist.

' I am sorry Gwen...Forgive me...'

The man crouched and grabbed Joseph's neck.

Joseph couldn't help but try to move the metal arm away from him. But he didn't succeed.

As he felt he was being blacked out he flapped his arms around. He managed to grab the mask of the assassin.

He used all this strength to get the mask off the man's face.

When the face was revealed, Joseph felt a chill on his back even though he had felt nothing there since he was hit.

"...Bucky?" Joseph managed to slip a word before he died.

His death is full of confusion.
