"So? Why the Shuzar Estate?" Isaac asked, looking at the anxious lady he had just decided to escort. "You don't need to know," she said. Isaac smiled at the clear refusal. "Then, perhaps, you could elaborate more on why you were jumping walls of your estate instead of a more conventional walking method?" Isaac said. "Another thing you don't need to know," she said. "How about an account on something I AM allowed to know?" Isaac said in a particularly sarcastic tone. "The last time I checked, an account like that included 'NOTHING' in it," Evelyn said, looking out of the carriage window, possibly to ensure how much of the distance was traveled. A sighed chuckle escaped Isaac as he repressed his slight annoyance. "Look here, my dear lady, I am trying to make small talk that might help us improve our currently unhealthy relationship. And the way you're answering me certainly isn't helping," Isaac said turning Evelyn's face back toward him gently with his hand. "What could possibly give you the idea that I wanted to maintain a healthy relationship with you?" Evelyn snapped. "Maybe the fact that you jumped into my arms from a wall?" Isaac said delightfully. "I expect you to remember it despite your memory problems as it has been quite a recent occurrence." "Oh! Believe me! It wouldn't have happened if I had a choice!" (Evelyn) "Well, care to explain how you got into a situation where you had no other choice?" (Isaac) "Do you wish to know what could improve our relationship?" (Evelyn) "What, may I please know?" (Isaac) "You shutting up." (Evelyn)
When the queen dies, her children are no longer treated as equals in the imperial palace. In fact, they are literally thrown out. The worse thing that could happen to a newborn child in Behmuth's royal family was his mother dying in childbirth.
Lucifer's mother didn't die in childbirth. She took her own life after giving birth to him.
Or should he had been grateful that she at least gave birth to him instead of killing him along with herself?
Lucifer wasn't the king's son. He was a bastard child born between his mother and her lover. The lover was killed by the king of Behmuth who was captivated by the unearthly beauty of his mother.
Lady Ava Whitlock, Lucifer's mother, was the only daughter of the Whitlock family. Because of her dotting parents and older brothers, she had all the freedom she could ever ask for. Even the freedom to love.
Lucifer heard from his grandfather that his father was a mage, a genius one at that. His name was Theodore Shuzar. He was the second and youngest son of a Marquis in the southern principality of the Great Empire Alkezar.
He met Lady Ava during an opera that he attended while on his trip to Behmuth. It was love at first sight. For both of them. Lucifer's grandfather told him that his mother was like a spring fairy when she fell in love with his father. She was inherently beautiful with her red eyes and white hair with rosy pale skin. Red eyes and white hair were the traits of those from the Whitlock family.
But maybe it was her spring that brought her to the end of her happiness. She, without noticing, grabbed the king's attention at a party. They said it was her smile aimed at Sir Theodore after he asked her hand in marriage. Had she not smiled that day, as most people present there told, she may have escaped her brutal fate.
The moment the king was mesmerized by her, he drew his sword and pierced through Sir Theodore's heart, killing him right in front of Lady Ava. She had no time to mourn his death as she was immediately detained at the palace and forced into marrying the king as his 9th wife.
Anyone from the Whitlock duchy was banned from entering the palace. The king tried for five relentless nights to force his way with Lady Ava. But every time she refused and threatened to slit her throat herself. By the sixth night, she had lost all her will to live. Grief and remorse, she felt disgusted at her own beauty and she broke every mirror in the room she was locked in.
The king did not come that night and Lady Ava was found half dead the next morning after she cut her wrists. The king made sure she was saved, but he immediately withdrew his attempts of taking her. Lady Ava was pregnant. The child could not be killed as time had long passed that stage.
Frustrated, the king declared, "If you cannot be mine, you shall stay trapped for your entire life so you can be no one else's".
The king never visited her again after that day.
Time passed and the child was born. He had red eyes and white hair. But his face was the spitting image of his father. Holding both his parent's good features, he was so beautiful a child that for some time the maids refused to give the child to his mother.
Lady Ava smiled for the first time ever since Sir Theodore died after she had a look at her son's face.
"Theo said his older brother had a son with a name starting with 'L'," Lady Ava said as she hugged the baby. "He wished that our child would have a name starting from an 'L' too."
Tears fell from her eyes as she kissed the child.
"You look like an angel yet you came to this hell because of me," she hugged her child for the last time. "Aren't you a fallen angel, Lucifer?"
She never looked at the baby again after naming him. And two days after childbirth, she jumped from the window of the very room she was imprisoned in and never returned to that room again. She died.
They said the king was enraged and almost killed everyone in charge of attending the 9th queen. He saw Lucifer and the first thing he said was, "If only you were a girl, with that beauty you would've been the perfect replacement for your mother."
He ordered the knights to dispose of the child. But one of the knights didn't have the heart to kill the child as he was once saved by Lady Ava. He ran away with the child and took him to the Whitlock duchy.
Lucifer was raised at the duchy for five years. His grandfather and uncles dotted on him. Maybe they were trying to fill the void left by Lady Ava with Lucifer. Since a young age, Lucifer showed genius traits just like his father, but the place where his talents flourished was entirely different, Artifacts and Magic tools. Wonderful creations that made the impossible possible.
Having Lucifer as Lady Ava's replacement didn't mean that the duchy forgot about what the king had done to their precious daughter and their beloved son-in-law. Just assassinating the king wasn't enough. Another one of his wretched blood would be crowned again. But, having the entire bloodline of the king eradicated in front of his eyes as he lost his throne was the perfect revenge they could ask for.
"Live as if you never existed, Lucifer," His grandfather used to tell him. "Your mother gave you the name of a fallen angel. Heaven was never a place you should aim for. Create the hell in which you can rampage those who took your parents from you. Live up to the name your mother gave you, Lucifer."
At the age of five, he was sent to the capital of Alkezar to live with his grandparents on his father's side. He was always loved by them. But due to the rebellion in progress, he could not be revealed to the direct heir of the Shuzar family to exclude any involvement by the family. At the age of seven, Lucifer was moved to the Brooklyn library as the young daughter of a commoner, Margaret Shaw, the librarian. Lucifer was disguised as a girl after he made the necklace for himself.
One of the reasons he had to move to the library was because of the children of his father's older brother coming to the capital. The Shuzar family's main house and estate was in Singrad, the Southern principality. But the White Witch of the Singrad forest went berserk and froze the entire city of Singrad in black ice.
The two children were the only survivors. Lloyd Shuzar and Julia Shuzar. They couldn't know Lucifer's existence. So Lucifer was sent to the library. The previous Marquis was very fond of the Brooklyn library, as Julia was told, she often followed her grandfather to the library before his death.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Julia came to know that Lucifer was a boy and an artifact creator. She herself had a very unique secret about her foresight that she told Lucifer about. They quickly became friends and Lucifer was never lonely.
He never once revealed his true face to anyone after coming to Alkezar. His red eyes and white hair could be traced back to the Whitlock duchy and his features that resembled his father's could get him into trouble in the capital of Alkezar.
But now, he had removed all his artifacts that altered his appearance. A pale handsome young man with blood-red eyes and shiny white looked into his eyes as he stood in front of the mirror.
"It's time, Prince Lucifer," a voice came from the darkness behind him.
"Let's go and get it done quickly. I have a very important guest visiting me by the end of the month," Lucifer said wearing his hood.
"Is it the mysterious informant, Your Highness?" the voice asked.
Lucifer chuckled and said," That's one funny way to call him. He's more a devil lurking in heaven than an informant."
With that, they both left the place and vanished.
