Chapter 42

Heidi smiled. “I can take care of Snow. I’ll leave the business of the weapons to you.” She turned and started toward the door, then stopped, turned back, and gave them that stern look one gave a misbehaving toddler again. “Are you two coming? We can’t get Snow until we get off this boat.”

“I’m not armed. No weapons in the gambling hall, remember? And I’d like to get to the trunks down here, see what’s inside, and get any illegal weapons on board secured.” What Todd really wanted was something to ease the cacophony of pain searing through his rib cage.

“Good point. I’ll arrange for us to get to shore.” Heidi shook her finger at them. “Don’t take all day. I’ll be waiting at your stateroom in an hour.”

Todd would have happily slugged Nick for the smirk and laugh thinly disguised behind a cough when Todd mumbled, “Yes, ma’am.” Except that would have hurt too much.
