The Fight (2)

The mutant… was well… a monster. While Smith's office was not small, it was close enough to allow me to get a closer look at the mutant.

Its body was now tainted red with blood and its fangs were similarly oozing out the crimson blood from its previous carnage. Its muscles were bulging but the scales that clad these muscles told me it was sturdy for more than one reason. All in all, it was the right tool for the job. I just had to get it to crush open the floor.

"F*CK!" But at that very moment, a conflict broke out. Shots started to be fired and they continued to whiz past me and even the monster itself.

Clink!

One such bullet dug into my armored chest.

"Urgh…!" I didn't know what this black suit was made of but while it did manage to dissipate much of the brunt the bullet still entered my chest. I fell to the floor.

The mutant, who was following proper mutant etiquette, noticed my awesome protagonist aura and let out a vicious roar.

RAWRRR!!!

"F*ck!" I cursed my misfortune but I also waited patiently. The monster sprinted towards me and in an attempt to kill me pounded its meaty fists on the ground.

BANG

I rolled aside and the ground shook at that very moment. The shaking told me I had won the gamble.

"AAAH!" But winning meant it didn't just shake, it caved in. Both I and the mutant fell down towards the floor below.

"Damn my bum!" I said before noticing the mutant was in a worse situation than my own. The area we fell through was not another room but a passage. Unfortunately, the passage was too narrow for the brutish thing.

I then heard the sound of some people dropping here with me.

"Dan! Let's run!" Seamus said before hoisting me off the ground laden with debris.

BANG

A shot flew past, Seamus returned fire quickly immobilizing the person.

Being lifted, I winced. Seamus was able to notice the excessive bleeding on my chest area.

"Ah, you got shot!" Seamus exclaimed in panic.

ROAR RAWR!!

The mutant however made Seamus quickly shift focus. The passage seemed to run directly under the office and then continue downward. Due to this weird layout, the mutant was actually blocking the way further in!

"W- We can't…" I was having a hard time staying awake following the fall. I think some debris managed to further aggravate the wound.

It was funny. How did I manage to survive bullets and falls with ease? Now it seemed I would be dying to a stray shot. To be fair, I hadn't truly recovered since those events but it was really unfair.

These situations that kept stacking against me and the gang made me realize I really wasn't the protagonist. I was pitiful if anything…

My heart suddenly throbbed with pain. I squinted my eyes and mustered some strength to look at my hand which was covered with black strands.

"Damn it… Let me go, Seamus…" My mind wasn't in the right place.

"Dan! We are running towards it!" Seamus said having made up his mind. The mutant was still tightly squeezed from side to side onto the passage wall but its continued struggle to break free suggested it would soon buckle these walls

Seamus quickly put me on a piggyback and ran towards the mutant who didn't fail to see us.

Unlike before however, it didn't roar. It instead drew back its head before lunging out and spitting out a vile liquid.

BANG

Seamus shot the liquid causing parts of it to scatter off and splatter over walls and debris. Droplets of venom came in contact with both Seamus and me causing the former to suddenly falter right in front of the mutant.

The mutant's struggle to free itself became more exorbitant having been presented with prey right under its feet. My eyes shook at the sight. Was I afraid? My hands did keep shaking.

But why was I afraid? Seconds started to feel like hours as I stared at the wrathful beast pondering deeply on this question.

I seemed to understand something. My mind churned and the shaking of my hands started to cease. My wound felt cold but that only helped cool down my mind and numbed my emotion.

At this very moment, the mutant managed to free one of its log-like arms. I squinted before one of my darkened hands reached into my pocket.

The arm came down like a gavel about to hammer Seamus and me into the ground. Before it had the chance to however I held firmly onto the trigger of the pocketed weapon.

BOOM

"AAARRAAWR!!" The mutant was stunned by a radioactive explosion and let out a shrill cry that didn't lose out over the loud sound of gunshots.

What I had tossed was the gun from the man earlier cooked up like a grenade.

"Dan…" I heard Seamus softly mutter from under me. He had tripped up earlier and since he gave me a ride...

"I got it" I said before grabbing his body and dragging him with me right under the bloodied mutant. This time the blood that coated the mutant's body was its own, the fallen scales made evident.

I took the liberty to swipe one of them much to Seamus' dismay. The man was still paralyzed from the poison while I was surprisingly fine.

The mutant was not very happy to see us scoot underneath it but it had no choice but to bear it. Especially after various gunshots started to rain down on it from above.

"Hahaha! Great job Dan!" A familiar voice shouted. The wounds that exposed its soft skin allowed for the bullets to be extremely effective and the mutant could no longer afford to pay attention to Seamus and me.

I ignored the familiar voice. I turned the corridor and were met by a set of stairs which was not what I was expecting. A hatch or ladder seemed more logical but apparently Smith wasn't the type to use such things.

I did my fair share of cardio while continuing down the stairs.

"It's dark…" Seamus commented languidly.

I wanted to nod in agreement but I could clearly see everything. That included his poor state. The venom had merely made contact with his skin in the form of droplets yet to think it was this effective.

"Thank you for taking the brunt of it, Seamus" I was probably fine since I was on his back.

"Cough, don't worry about it" He replied from behind me. Our positions had changed while going down the stairs with him now being held in piggyback.

I really wanted to say the atmosphere was eerie and that the stairs were creaking but they seemed rather new. They were made of wood but they were also pretty sturdy. It was a low tension situation but I was still worried. If Smith was below he wasn't that much less scary than the mutant.

Tap Tap

We continued our descent for what felt like four entire floors before finally coming across a thick metal door.

I dropped Seamus down on the ground.

"If Smith is here we can't kill him…" Our job was to kill him so I obviously didn't mean we needed to capture him.

My biggest advantage was my ability to obscure my presence and some fairly sized items. Smith Moral as reported was 4 grades above mine.

The black armor I stole from the guard which was likely made of some mutant was neat but... I didn't believe it was capable of crossing this large strength threshold. The gun definitely could have done some work but the scary big guy already took it to the face.

"What are we going to do then…?" Seamus asked as some feeling returned to his body.

I wanted to think about it for a good while but before I knew it, the door was burst open. A bad habit of people and mutants of this library.

"Die!" A man wearing a fancy suit said. He had gray hair and seemed quite refined but his wicked eyes as he yelled out the crude words told me he was anything but refined.

His hands were wide open like claws coming to snatch me but I reacted appropriately and rolled aside.

"Hahaha! You filthy mongrels! You ruined everything!" Smith shouted. He was going insane.

The feed from the security camera which was supposed to be used to monitor things dealt him a heavy mental blow. It all started with seeing his guard getting murdered by some nobody.

After that, the mutant that entered his office and broke everything revealing the passage made him feel the threat of death. The secret passage that was hastily modified did not yet have a proper secondary exit.

A cornered rat Smith had no other choice than to mimic the days of his youth and charge into danger himself. His grade might have plateaued but that didn't mean he hadn't seen his fair share of battle.

Dan's first mission to assassinate a member of the government was officially starting.

I changed the name of the Against Smith Moral chapters to The Library Assault.

Also, was the transition from 1st person to 3rd person weird?

I'll change it to first-person if it's too confusing but that would result in me making some changes.
