"What can you tell me about her?" some random guy asked me. It was an interview. An interview for publicity. Astrid was being put on a show, I was just the proxy to learn more about her as a person. I was okay with it. I knew the most about her, she'd been my best friend our whole lives. What choked me up was that she was staring at me too. It wasn't just the cameras and the audience. She was there. Sparkling red dress with bright blue eyes staring at me in silent curiosity. I knew she was more interested in what I had to say than anyone else daring to breathe in her direction, ruffling her brunette hair.
"Do you want the in depth version, or surface grade?" I shot back, answering a question with a question. Interviewers hated that. I know because I am one. I adjusted in my seat, fixing the coat to my suit. My eyes shifted to the guy hosting the show rather than Astrid. Why they decided to air this interview, I was unsure, but they did.
"Anything you can give us," he told me.
"Anything?" I replied. "Okay." I cleared my throat.
"Her favorite color is white. She likes it because it's an uncommonly liked color and she hates being common. Her favorite flower is scorpion grass, more commonly known as forget-me-not. She swears she loves the flowers because they're beautiful, but there was a moment when she was half asleep when we were teenager that she told me they were her favorite because she wished they could be turned into a spell. She could use them to enchant whoever she wanted into never forgetting her. Or she could never forget them," I said. Astrid looked surprised. "Her favorite movie is Peter Pan and she never cries when someone dies in a movie, but she will cry at the back story of a horror film. She's kind, but not enough to volunteer at a soup kitchen because she's afraid she would mess up the food. She likes her Ramen cooked on seven minutes because six isn't mushy enough but eight is too mushy. Her ice cream has to be more of a frosty consistency than ice cream otherwise it's not worth eating."
"Wow, that's already a lot!" the host said.
"She's my best friend. I know her hopes, I know her dreams. I know what she likes and dislikes and I know her worst. I know her inside and out. That will never change."
