Chapter 26.1 : Whirlpool

Two months later,

Step by step, a man and a woman walked through a series of underground tunnels, not making any sound in the slightest, fearing that they would disturb the true owners of these tunnels about their presence.

With each step the two took, sweat appeared on their forehead's, as the head of the volcano became more and more intense.

But even so, the heat was still evidently bearable not only here, but even deeper inside these tunnels, where this true operation was taking place at the moment.

"Do you think these tunnels go all the way to the magma pool?" asked the man as he looked at the woman, causing the latter to fall into thought.

"I think that's to be expected, isn't it, we aren't dealing with your ordinary rogue company or individual right now, you can never not be on your guard," said the woman as she unconsciously gripped the pistol in her hand.

But even though both of them knew who they were dealing with right now, neither of them backed off, nor were they scared.

Even though a situation like this was highly unusual, this group of husband and wife had dealt against the forces of different countries in the past, and after all, this place was not Russia itself, giving them much more confidence.

As such, both of them continued onwards towards their destination.

After around thirty minutes of silently walking through, the woman suddenly stretched out her hand in front of the man, blocking him for going forward as she turned her head towards him.

Seeing this, a pitch black figure suddenly appeared floating behind the man before placing its hands-on both of them.

A moment later, the man, woman, as well as the figure invisible to normal people all disappeared, becoming completely invisible.

And then, after around thirty more seconds, the cause of this finally revealed itself.

Three armed guards, holding assault weapons in their hands, walked through the tunnel, with their eyes constantly wandering about, searching for anything suspicious.

Suddenly, though, one of the guards raised his assault rifle and shot a bullet into a certain wall before shaking his head after seeing it merely hit the wall.

"Did something happen?" asked another guard as he looked at his colleague, who had just shot his gun at random.

"My mistake sir, I just felt something was wrong," said the guard, causing the leading guard to slightly shake his head, signaling that he had understood and that they had to be on their way.

Because they had to be on their guard all the time, searching for intruders where none exist, the guard knew that some paranoia was inevitable.

The only two things that made the guard annoyed were the call that would of course come from his superior in just a few moments, who will most likely ask him if something had happened, as well as the paperwork he would have to fill out.

If not for these two things, the guard would have been rather happy to have his subordinate shoot all over the place, after all, he didn't pay for the bullets, but sadly, this was not the case.

Only a few moments later, the group of guards continued on their way.

...

As she watched the guard walk further and further away, the woman couldn't help but turn her attention to the bullet casing standing in front of her, causing her stand, which had been activated the moment the bullet was shot, to deactivate as well.

If not for the fact that both of them had become intangible because of her stand, that bullet would have most likely revealed their location to the guards.

And even though the husband and wife could take care of a group of three normal guards without any difficulties, this place was swarming with guards, making it nearly impossible for them to escape if a true gunfight took place.

Only a few moments after that, the husband and wife went on their way, when suddenly, the wife stretched out her hand once again, causing both of them to nearly instantly become invisible as the husband activated his stand.

Around five seconds later, the sound of a car began being reheard through the tunnels, as it approached from a distance.

Slowly but surely, the car came closer and closer to the group, before eventually revealing itself, as well as the people inside of it.

Inside the roofless car stood five people.

Three guards that were of course armed to the teeth, who were protecting two people.

An old African man holding a long stick in his hands, who was currently sitting next to an Eastern European man.

Even though neither of them could understand the African language these two were speaking in, thankfully, both of them had high-tech microphones inserted all over their clothes, allowing them to record the conversation of the two.

...

'How long do you think finding the target will take?'

'I'm not able to give you a completely certain answer but thanks to your operation here, It should not take longer than around 3 months.'

'That's go...'

As he read through the rather lengthy conversation, a faint frown appeared on the face of the husband.

"Neither of them are speaking about what they are actually searching for, It's as if both of them are intentionally avoiding saying the word itself," said the husband with a frown on his face, causing the wife to slightly nod.

"It seems as though that African man was a stand user though, I could feel it, what could they desire so much that they found a stand user just to search for it?" asked the wife, with a confused look on her face.

Even though both of them were stand users, the organization they were part of was actually a normal one, unaware of stand users.

Not only that, the mission that the two were on was actually posted by an Environmental Organization, which wanted to see what was happening under there, making this situation even more complicated.

After a few moments, both of them let out faint sighs, unaware of the whirlpool they had accidentally stumbled into.
