CHAPTER 192

Allison and Kira sped right behind Tristan with Stiles and Scott behind them. The group of super powered teens and their friends were shaken quite roughly by what they just experienced, even if the worst of it was timely avoided.

"Are you alright?" Allison asked as she drove, after finally calming herself down and thinking over how close to death they all were had it not been for Tristan's timely intervention.

Him being a vampire was exactly what kept them alive and in one piece.

"I'm… doing alright, I think?" Kira was still out of her mental loop. Only now was she thinking about why she didn't just go to her father instead of following Allison, who was following Tristan, to who knows where.

In her confused state, her survival instinct made her automatically follow the well organized group in the midst of the chaos and panic in hopes for higher chances of self-preservation.

"If that's your response then you're doing great. I swear, it's always one thing after another with either this school or the town, or both." She stroked her hair behind her ears with her idle hand while the other steered the car with grace and focus.

"Is it really the Nogitsune like Tristan said?" Kira asked after some time, no longer being able to keep all her messed up thoughts to herself.

"Definitely." Allison's reply was both curt and stern, brokering no thoughts of doubts or entertaining possibilities.

"How are you so sure?" Kira asked once again to which Allison gave a succinct reply.

"You'll soon learn that in this part of the world, coincidences and conveniences are both implausible and rare. Unlikely happenstance that you'll want to avoid if you can help it. Simplicity is best."

Kira took Allison's words to heart as she was the more experienced one between the both of them.

"Where are they taking Lydia?"

Allison sighed as she started feeling the minute throbbing of a creeping headache. "Probably Tristan's house. Lydia's mom is said she will have Lydia admitted in a 'specialized' facility to rehabilitate her if she continues having 'episodes' of mental breakdowns."

"… Oh. That can't be good." Kira remarked worriedly. Her phone started ringing, causing her to groan and slap her forehead in exasperation as she knew who was calling and why they were calling.

"Better pick that up. Your parents worrying about you is the last thing you need on your mind especially when an evil spirit is after your life."

Kira chuckled at Allison's advice and reluctantly picked the call to face her mother's sharp inquiries.

Maybe it was because her mother was trying to be more accommodating and understanding of what now Kira's life, but she wasn't her usually overbearing self and mostly expressed her worries over her wellbeing with as little words as possible, as was normal with her mother, and urged her to quickly return home.

"Now I'm the jealous one." Allison huffed. Just remembering the troubles and butting heads she had with her dad on numerous occasions about her movements made her envy Kira… just a little bit.

…..

The unlikely duo of Chris Argent and Derek Hale walked into Deaton's animal clinic causing the veterinarian to look at them with genuine but welcome surprise.

"Don't look so surprised. It's as temporary as it can get." Derek said to the pleasantly surprised doctor.

"You don't say. I rather like the potential of such an odd pairing… but I'm not so sure I'll like what brings you both to my shop at the same time." Deaton said as he invited them into the inner room where he did his treatments on the little fellas.

"So what is so urgent that have both of you working together?… and stumped from the looks of it."

"You're right on all counts, doc. I'll be straight to the point and ask; I assume you know what a Nogitsune is, right?" Argent asked and Deaton nodded. "Then do you know how to kill one? And preferably make sure it stays dead?"

"Hmm." Deaton stroked his chin in thought but ended up shaking his head. "You're talking about a way to kill a very ancient spirit of chaos. Restrain? That I might be able to offer my help in, but to kill one is something above my capabilities. I'm sorry gentlemen."

The Hunter and the Alpha sighed regrettably but weren't exactly disappointed as they somewhat expected such an answer.

Left with no other option, Argent went for the best thing they could get. "And how do we go about restraining it?"

"It's a special and very rare type of a plant called Letharia Vulpina-"

"Wolf lichen." Argent interjected. He knew of this plant and its many species but not one that was effective on a Nogitsune. "And what makes this one very special?"

"Maybe the fact that it is a lichen that grew from the blood of a slain Nogitsune. As for its capabilities, it can fully suppress the influence and abilities of a Nogitsune to the point of completely nullifying it. Except it is temporary, like most things that sound too good to be true are."

"And let me guess; acquiring it is another journey on its own." Derek said after hearing what Deaton said. Seeing the wry smile on Deaton's face, Derek cursed that he was right. "It did sound too good to be true.".

"Can you help us with procuring this lichen, doc?" Chris asked, going for the only option available to them for now.

Alan had a difficult face at the request as doing it would mean crossing continents back and forth in a few days.

"If we can't arrest the damned thing's movement then there's no way we can kill it. Not to mention that it is a chaos fox spirit. The more we dawdle the more time we give it to concoct whatever diabolical scheme he has been cooking up."

Deaton had little choice but to agree. A rampaging Nogitsune was the worst thing anyone could hope for – more dangerous than Peter, the Kanima, and Jennifer in his opinion.

"I should get ready for the trip then." Deaton said before showing his two guests out.

...

Over at Tristan and Malia's house, Tristan laid Lydia's sleeping body in the extra room that was partially Lori's given how much of her things were in there.

"Okay, can someone please tell me what the hell happened back there?" Stiles exclaimed, no longer able to hold himself after ensuring that Lydia was fine.

"Something no one expected from the looks of it." Tristan answered and despite his even tone, everyone caught the sarcastic undertone of his words.

"A frigging school bus blew up in the school parking lot and took out people's eyes and probably crippled some. That is not just 'something' that happened." He inhaled long breaths of air and left the rest of them in the living room and made way to the fridge as if he owned the place.

"The hell? Who puts cans of blood at the first and last sections in their fridge?" He asked in astonishment with his head deep inside the fridge.

"A vampire. That's who." Boyd replied to Stiles who paused, muttered something to himself before pulling away from the fridge.

"So what now?" Malia asked. "We can't really go and sniff out a demonic fox-possessed fly, you know."

Tristan said nothing to that but turned to Kira who blinked questioningly at why she suddenly became the target of his focus.

"Tell your mother to release her Oni tonight. We don't know the rules it follows when possessing someone." Tristan said to her and she nodded.

From his brief conversation with the Nogitsune, he reckoned that should the fox spirit choose to target him, it'll likely go after Malia first. 'Or maybe save her for last to prolong it's sadistic satisfaction. Meaning it might try to possess either Boyd, Allison or Lydia.'

"So we're staying here until your ghost ninja samurai finish whatever they are coming to do, right? And before anyone say anything else, might I remind you that your best pal Stiles is grimly pure human so there's no way I can protect myself if things go sideways and those things start attacking Scott and I." Stiles' explanation of their current situation made it pretty clear that Scott was more or less on his own once Derek finally leaves.

"You can stay, but keep the voices down. Kira, let's go. I need to ask your mother something." Tristan said and picked up his car keys and called out to Malia. "Are you coming along?"

"Nah. I think I'll sleep some tension away before night comes." She replied while halfway to their room.

"Okay, then. Kira."

After Tristan and Kira left, Stiles plopped down relaxingly into the longer couch and picked up the remote control to search up something to watch.

"What?" He asked when he noticed that they were all looking at him.

"Nothing man. Carry on." Boyd said and went to the kitchen to make something light to chow on.

"Are you alright, Scott? You've been real quiet since we arrived." Stiles' question startled Scott but he easily waved off Stiles' concern.

"He just pisses me off for some reason." Scott said in a way that Stiles found weird and threatening(?).
